Tottenham scouted Nurnberg midfielder Caspar Jander and are set to run the rule over him in the ongoing Euro Under-21 Championship
Tottenham Hotspur finally got their icy hands on new manager Thomas Frank on Thursday afternoon, officially announcing his appointment on a three-year deal from Brentford.
Spurs’ Europa League triumph granted them a place in the UEFA Champions League, and Daniel Levy will look to overhaul a squad that struggled in the Premier League and finished a lowly 17th. It is clear the current squad is not good enough to compete across multiple fronts next term, let alone Premier League.
Thus, fresh faces are required to kickstart a new era at White Hart Lane. Daniel Levy is expected to compound on his strategy of investing in young, hungry and exciting talent with potential of recent years, with Spurs scouts set to run the rule over several gems competing in the European Under-21 Championship in Slovakia.
Spurs have already completed groundwork for a summer move for AS Roma midfielder Niccolo Pisilli. The North Londoners’ scout are set to monitor the performances of Toulouse talent Noah Edjouma. There is another gem who Tottenham remain interested in.
According to TBR Football senior correspondent Graeme Bailey, FC Nurnberg and Germany midfielder Caspar Jander is on the radar of Tottenham, having been scouted last season.
Germany have enjoyed a brilliant start to the Euro Under-21 Championship campaign, beating Slovenia 3-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Nick Woltemade. Caspar Jander was an unused substitute in Germany’s opener.
Jander has made into the Germany squad for the Euro U-21 following his eye-catching performances for FC Nurnberg in the Bundesliga 2. He registered three goals and nine assists in 32 league appearances, as Nurnberg finished 10th in the table.
A hybrid profile of No.6 and No.8, the German could be a shrewd, long-term acquisition for Tottenham. The 22-year-old is an intelligent midfielder who has demonstrated a great knack of creating and scoring goals for Nurnberg, complemented by a tireless work ethic. Jander works well alongside a ground-eating, destroyer as he plays in a more progressive style.

Tottenham’s midfield has been easy to bypass this past season, which has led to their defensive record being objectionable. The young Jander could offer a solution to that whilst also helping Frank’s side going forward. The midfielder’s valuation is yet to be known but a strong Euro Under-21 campaign would only accentuate Levy’s pursuit of the youngster.
