Tottenham Hotspur table a £70m bid to sign PL star familiar with Thomas Frank’s tactics

Tottenham Hotspur have made their first move to hijack Manchester United’s pursuit of Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo

Tottenham Hotspur finalised the appointment of Thomas Frank this week from Brentford as they replaced Ange Postecoglou at the helm.

Despite winning the Europa League in the 2024/25 campaign and subsequently earning them Champions League football for next season, Ange Postecoglou failed to keep hold of his job thanks to Spurs’ dismal domestic campaign. But now with the Australian gone and succeeded by Thomas Frank, the Lilywhites are seemingly not messing around. They are trying to make a statement across the Premier League and backing their new boss by bringing in a proven Premier League talent.

According to a report from The Daily Mirror, Tottenham have tabled a £70m bid to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo ahead of Manchester United. The North London club’s offer is worth £65million plus £5million in add-ons, £10million more than Man United’s.

Tottenham have tabled an eye-watering opening bid for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo

Man United have been leading the race to sign Bryan Mbeumo this summer. The left-footed forward has been the subject of an offer from the Red Devils last week after declaring his preference to move to Old Trafford this summer. Brentford rejected the Mancunian giants’ opening bid worth £60million including add-ons.

Ruben Amorim’s club are now preparing to launch a second bid for the Cameroonian international, who enjoyed a sensational last season with the Bees that yielded 20 goals and seven assists in 38 Premier League appearances. While Man United remain favourites, failure to agree a deal with Brentford has opened the door for new Spurs boss Thomas Frank to reunite with his former protegee.

The aforementioned report adds Frank wants to try and lure the 25-year-old to White Hart Lane with the prospect of a reunion and Champions League football. The Danish tactician brought Mbeumo to the West London club from French side Troyes back in the summer of 2019 and helped him become one of the highly coveted forwards in the Premier League.

Daniel Levy could make a statement this summer by beating Manchester United to the signing of Bryan Mbeumo

Even though the African ace wants to join Amorim’s squad at Old Trafford despite them having no European football to play next season, Frank arriving at Tottenham may lead to a change in heart. Capable of operating as a false 9, secondary striker and on the right flank, Mbeumo would be a smashing signing for the Lilywhites if they can manage to pull it off. He’d instantly enhance Spurs’ attacking unit, whilst being an upgrade on the inconsistent Brennan Johnson on the right wing.

All in all, Tottenham making an eye-watering £70m bid for the Brentford forward shows Levy’s intent to back Frank with a marquee acquisition. The Bees should be happy with that fee, but the onus remains on Mbeumo now. Whether he is ambitious and wants to play in the Champions League will be known by the Cameroonian’s decision.
