Tottenham Hotspur skipper Son Heung-min has been heavily linked with a move to the cash-rich Saudi Pro League this summer
Thomas Frank has been appointed by Tottenham Hotspur to take the club to new heights and bring much-needed stability.
The Dane has to get the best out of the squad he inherited from Ange Postecoglou, who left the club after winning the Europa League. He will be key in deciding the future of several players, including skipper Son Heung-min.
Son Heung-min finally won a trophy with the North Londoners, lifting the Europa League trophy at the San Mames Stadium in Bilbao last month. After an individual campaign that didn’t meet his usual standards, many have questioned whether he should continue to be a part of the club or leave. The South Korean international has given some players and staff at Tottenham a hint that he is set to leave the club this summer.
The 32-year-old’s contract was due to expire at the end of the 2024/25 season but the club exercised their option to extend his deal by another 12 months, meaning he is now contracted until the summer of 2026. While Son is willing to work with new boss Thomas Frank, Football London correspondent Alasdair Gold has a different opinion.
There is a more distinct possibility that Son departs N17 this summer. As per the reputable journalist, the versatile forward is more open to ending his stay at White Hart Lane than he ever has been in all these years.
“He set out to achieve something and he achieved it, and he’s been there for 10 years. I think it’s quite important to look at some of the quotes that came out ahead of the final, where he made it very clear to the Korean media. Then I think after that to some English media that he admitted, I pretty much stayed at this club because I wanted to win a trophy,” Alasdair Gold said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast.
“So you can kind of analyse that as if to say that had he won a trophy, maybe he would have looked at opportunities that came in. And now he has won that trophy. And that’s what I understand, is that this summer is definitely the most open he’s been to getting a move if it’s one that suits all parties.
“Obviously, the Saudi Pro League, the clubs there, I think, would be very, very interested in taking him, some of them, because that’s a big thing for them to harness the Asian market. We know how huge he is within. And of course, he is also a terrific player. He is a superstar player.”

Sky Sports reporter James Green has called for Manchester City star Jack Grealish to potentially replace Son on the left flank at Tottenham. The South Asian ace has been a crucial figure for the North Londoners over many years, but his powers have been slowly waning and the time is right perhaps right to cash him in.

By cashing in on the 32-year-old icon, Daniel Levy must replace him with a younger, fitter and intelligent wide forward who is yet to hit his prime. This makes Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo an ideal fit, but Levy will have to break the club’s transfer record to bring him to the Hotspur Way this summer.
