Tottenham still in the hunt to land rival PL skipper in the summer; other PL clubs given priority

Tottenham are hoping to convince Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi to make the switch to N17

Tottenham Hotspur are facing a crucial summer as they look to build on the Europa League success next season. The Lilywhites cannot get complacent heading into the transfer market as a lot of problems need to be addressed quickly. With the North London club enduring a disastrous Premier League campaign, it is fair to say that Daniel Levy needs to bring in new players.

Ensuring Champions League football for next season will play a big part in the summer as Spurs look to bring in quality players to bolster the quality of the squad. The Lilywhites can lure some highly-rated players to join the club by offering them a chance to play in the elite competition against top teams. However, there is one problem that Tottenham might face in the summer as they look to bring in new signings.

Tottenham still remain hopeful to land Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi in the summer.

Due to the poor Premier League campaign and the financial losses that the club has endured after finishing just a place above the relegation zone, Spurs will be forced to adopt the ‘sell-to-buy’ policy in the summer. This means that the North London club will need to cash-in on a lot of players to generate funds for quality replacements for next season.

Tottenham must focus on adding more depth in their defence following the injury crisis that the backline endured this season. The lack of quality centre-backs in the squad is alarming and the Lilywhites cannot start next season without addressing the problems at the back. With Cristian Romero heading towards a potential exit in the summer, Daniel Levy must bring in a quality replacement quickly for next season.

As per the BBC, Spurs are still interested in signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace in the summer. The Lilywhites have been long-term admirers of the England international and view him as a perfect replacement of Cristian Romero. The Palace captain is open to testing himself in a new environment and the Eagles will look to cash-in on the defender this year so that they do not lose him on a free in 2026.

However, Tottenham are more than likely to miss out on signing Guehi in the coming weeks. It was reported earlier that the 24-year-old has already snubbed the opportunity to play for the Lilywhites next season. The England international is waiting for other top clubs to send an offer instead. The aforementioned report had also suggested that Guehi snubbed Spurs as he wants to join a club that could compete for silverware regularly.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the highly-rated centre-back. It is fair to say that the 24-year-old will fit in perfectly at N17 under Thomas Frank. The Danish tactician prefers his centre-back to play out from the back and create chances from deep. Guehi excels in that and also tends to invite pressure to create space for his teammates. Will the Palace captain join Spurs in the summer? Only time will tell.
