Tottenham youngster Jamie Donley will be keen to make a mark over the pre-season after impressing on loan at Leyton Orient last season
There are plenty of serious talents coming through the Tottenham Hotspur academy. Mikey Moore has already broken into the first team, while Damola Ajayi, Callum Olusesi and a few more appear next in line.
Thomas Frank became renowned for developing players at his former club, Brentford. At Tottenham, he will be hoping to work his magic and develop players as well as nurture young talents. Creating a proper pathway from the academy to the first team will also be important, as the Danish tactician looks to make Spurs competitive again in the Premier League.
In the next couple of weeks, the players are due to arrive back at Hotspur Way for pre-season, in which Thomas Frank will be assessing his new squad. Several players who spent the last season out on loan will also get a chance to impress the new boss.
Jamie Donley will be one to watch out for. The 20-year-old signed his first professional contract with Tottenham in January 2022 and made three Premier League appearances during the 2023/24 season. Identifying his potential, Spurs secured the youngster’s future with a contract extension until 2027 before sending him out on loan to League One club Leyton Orient in August 2024.
The creative midfielder was one of the standout performers for Leyton Orient, netting eight goas and laying a further 10 assists in 42 appearances. Jamie Donley scored an outrageous long-range goal in the FA Cup against Manchester City, for which he received glowing praise from Pep Guardiola.
Football London journalist Alasdair Gold has now given an update on Donley and where his immediate future lies. He states there are a lot of clubs looking at him for a loan, but a decision on his future will be only taken after Frank has evaluated the creative midfielder during the forthcoming pre-season.
“I think Tottenham are going to reassess his (Donley’s) future later in the summer once Thomas Frank has had a chance to have a proper look at him on the training pitches,” Alasdair Gold said on his YouTube channel.
“I would love him to break through right now. You know he’s got a bit of a wand of a left foot, he’s a terrific player. Umm it may be that he needs that next step first you know alone in the Championship next season. There are a lot of clubs looking at him. So yeah, it’s uh they’re all waiting to kind of essentially find out what Spurs and Thomas Frank want to do.”

Indeed, Donley is an extremely talented player and he was a class part in the League One. The experience of playing in men’s football should have really benefited the 20-year-old, who is certain to harbour ambitions of breaking into the Tottenham senior side.

However, it is worth noting that the Lilywhites are presently eyeing a move for West Ham United attacker Mohammed Kudus. If they can get a deal over the line, Kudus will join James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski as the creative players in the squad. This would potentially come as a barrier for Donley to break into the first team at Spurs next season.
So, regardless of if he performs well over the pre-season tour, Donley should seek a loan move away to the Championship and continue his development.
