Inter defender Yann Bisseck has a decision to make as Tottenham and Everton fight it out for his signature
There is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to revamp the defensive unit for next season. The Lilywhites struggled at the back last season, with first-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven suffering long-term injuries for most parts of the campaign. This forced Ange Postecoglou to play Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray during crucial games, highlighting the lack of depth at the back.
The luck just wasn’t on Big Ange’s side as Dragusin also ruptured his ACL midway through the season and was side-lined for a considerable amount of time. This forced Daniel Levy to bring in an emergency signing in the January transfer window to partner with Gray in the heart of the defence.

The Lilywhites signed Kevin Danso from RC Lens earlier this year on an initial loan. To make matters worse, the Austrian also suffered a hamstring injury immediately after joining and spent a month in the treatment room. However, the key defenders returned to action just in time for Spurs as the club reached the promised land by winning the Europa League to end the season on a high.
Tottenham need to fend off competition for Inter star Yann Bisseck
One can understand why Tottenham are willing to bring in a new centre-back in the summer. The Lilywhites cannot afford to begin the new campaign with no depth at the back, as Thomas Frank looks to compete on all four fronts next season. The need for a new defender is imminent, and signing a player that would provide cover for Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven is on the agenda for Daniel Levy.
It was reported earlier that Spurs were interested in signing Yann Bisseck from Inter Milan in the summer. The Germany international played an important role under Simone Inzaghi last season, helping the club compete for the Champions League and the Serie A title. The aforementioned report also stated that the Lilywhites had no problems paying the €40m asking price for the defender.
However, interest cooled off since the news came out as Inter headed out to USA to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup. Now, new reports suggest that Tottenham face competition for the 24-year-old’s signature. As per La Repubblica, Everton have joined the race to sign Yann Bisseck in the summer. The Toffees aim to kickstart a new era at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and want the German to join the Merseyside club and play alongside Jarrad Branthwaite.
This makes the deal complicated for Spurs as they will need to pull out all stops to sign the Inter defender. The Lilywhites cannot guarantee Bisseck regular game-time at N17 as Romero and Van de Ven are clearly the first-choice defenders. But Thomas Frank does like to play with three defenders as the back on numerous occasions, and that might just make space for the 24-year-old to feature regularly in the team.

The Germany international is still young and has his best years ahead of him, so bringing him to N17 would make sense. The asking price is also reasonable, and his attributes would suit the way Thomas Frank wants his defenders to play. The Dane wants his centre-backs to create chances from deep and be comfortable on the ball, and Bisseck excels in that.
