Vasco da Gama want to sign Tottenham striker but need him to reduce wage demands

Date:

Tottenham forward Richarlison is wanted by Brazilian club Vasco da Gama

Tottenham Hotspur are starting to accelerate their transfer business, as new boss Thomas Frank plans to rebuild the squad.

The Lilywhites announced the signing of young defender Kota Takai from Kawasaki Frontale on Tuesday- their second acquisition of the summer transfer window. Despite being 20, Takai is expected to compete in the first team next season.

Thomas Frank knows there is plenty of work to be done to make his squad competitive for the gruelling 2025/26 campaign. Apart from bringing in quality players, he has to sort out the futures of some senior players in his squad. And one of them is of Richarlison.

There is a big possibility that Richarlison gets sold this summer after three underwhelming years in North London. The 28-year-old has been linked with several clubs in recent months. Saudi Pro League clubs have shown an interest in the Brazil forward, while Turkey has been touted as a possible destination for him. Everton have also been keen on re-signing Richarlison.

Now, there is a new club vying for the Tottenham forward’s signature. According to talkSPORT, Vasco da Gama want to sign Richarlison this summer. But the Brazilian international would have to lower his wage demands if he is to make a surprise return to his country to join Vasco da Gama.

Vasco da Gama are struggling in the bottom half of the league table, having collected only 13 points from opening 12 games. Goalscoring has been a big issue for the club, which is exactly why they are interested in signing Richarlison. It is not yet known whether the Brazilian club want to sign him on loan or permanently, but Spurs bosses would seek a sale to get a decent fee.

Tottenham must push to offload Richarlison

Richarlison has scored just 20 goals in 90 appearances across three seasons in North London, stats which clearly shows why this transfer has not worked out for both parties. The South American had arrived at N17 from Everton amid a lot of fanfare and expectations, but a glut of injuries in the last couple of years have stalled his progress.

At 28, he should be at the peak of his powers and scoring goals left, right and centre. But that is not the case, and rather than keeping a depreciating asset, Spurs would be wise to cut their losses on Richarlison now.
