Tottenham transfer blow as PL rivals close in on £86.5m French star; talks continue

Tottenham may not land Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike in the summer despite strong transfer links

Tottenham need to bring in a new striker that could compete with Dominic Solanke for a place in the starting eleven. The Lilywhites have still not managed to replace Harry Kane completely, and there is a strong belief amongst the fans that the North London club needs to sign another number nine just a year after signing Solanke in a high-profile deal.

Thomas Frank tends to play with two strikers up top at times, so it is necessary for Daniel Levy to bring in a centre-forward that would provide a different dynamic in the attack as compared to Solanke. The England international likes to get involved in the build-up play, and tends to come towards the middle-third to receive the ball.

So, the Spurs manager must make sure that the new signing compliments Solanke’s attributes and keeps the 27-year-old on his toes next season. Richarlison failed to do that last season, and the Brazilian also fell down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou. Many fans believe that the 28-year-old has run his race at N17, and it is time for the North London club to part ways with the forward.

Tottenham might miss out on Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike

Tottenham are looking to bolster their attacking options for next season as they aim to build on the Europa League success. The lack of options up front might cause major problems for Thomas Frank if the problem is not addressed in the coming weeks. So, Daniel Levy must do everything possible to bring in a player that would replace Richarlison and give Dominic Solanke a run for his money for the starting spot.

It was reported earlier that Spurs were interested in signing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer. The Lilywhites have held an interest in the 23-year-old for quite some time now, and Daniel Levy was also impressed with the Frenchman’s performance against Tottenham in the Europa League last season. The aforementioned report had also stated that Frankfurt has slammed a £86.5m price tag for his services.

However, the Lilywhites look set to miss out on the France international in the summer. As per David Ornstein (via X), Newcaslte United have stepped up their interest in the prolific striker and are working hard to seal the deal for his services. The Magpies are hoping to strike a deal for €75m for Ekitike, and want the 23-year-old to play alongside Alexander Isak in the forthcoming season.

Spurs signing Hugo Ekitike will surely bolster the attacking line for the next few years. However, Daniel Levy should not spend a significant fee for his services. The Lilywhites have other alternatives in the market that would come in for a much lesser transfer fee, and would also provide good cover to Dominic Solanke. Tottenham have held a long-term interest in OGC Nice striker Evann Guessand as well. And the Ivorian striker would do a solid job for the club for half the price.
