“Got a shot”- South American expert believes blockbuster summer move is on for Tottenham

Date:

Brazilian club Palmeiras are eyeing a blockbuster move for Tottenham forward Richarlison this summer

Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison has been linked with a move away from the club during the summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old joined Tottenham in a £60 million deal from Everton back in the summer of 2022. The Brazilian was a brilliant player at Everton, but for one reason or another, he just hasn’t been able to live up to his lofty price tag and expectations in North London.

Last season was no different for the versatile forward. A series of enforced absences limited Richarlison to just 24 appearances across all competitions. He did get the nod ahead of skipper Son Heung-min to start on the left flank in the Lilywhites’ Europa League final win over Manchester United, but overall, it was another forgettable campaign for the player in a white shirt.

The Brazil international has now entered the final two years of his contract at N17. The ex-Everton star has a long list of suitors this summer, which includes clubs from Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Brazil. He has reportedly been given the greenlight from the club to search for a new club, as new boss Thomas Frank reshapes the squad.

Recently, Brazilian journalist Matheus Filipe, via newspaper Terra, revealed that Palmeiras are planning a big-money swoop of Richarlison. Palmeiras president Leila Pereira is spearheading negotiations and has held talks with the Tottenham man over a move to Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A. Daniel Levy has slapped a £55m price tag on Richarlison, with Palmeiras trying to persuade the forward to return to Brazil.

Tim Vickery says Palmeiras have the means to make a deal for Richarlison happen

Palmeiras have not been put off by Tottenham’s high demands, with president Leila Pereira using a part of the Brazilian outfit’s Club World Cup earnings to finance the deal.

The Sau Paulo-based club bagged £29.1million in prize money by reaching the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup. Abel Ferreira’s side were beaten by eventual winners Chelsea in the last eight, and now those earnings could go a long way to signing Richarlison.

Now, South American football expert Tim Vickery has given his thoughts on Palmeiras’ chances of landing Richarlison this summer. He explained the Abel Ferreira-managed club have the means to convince the Spurs attacker to return to his native.

Daniel Levy could pull off a masterstroke by persuading Palmeiras to sign Richarlison

“The teams that have come back from the Club World Cup, they’ve got a lot of money. So suddenly a move like this is a possibility,” Tim Vickery told Hawksbee & Jacobs (h/t talkSPORT).

“Now, you scan round Europe and you think, well they’ve got all this money but who can they persuade to come back?

“It’s very unlikely they can do that with someone in their prime doing well in Europe, but that’s not really the case with Richarlison, is it? He’s been one injury after another.

“You look around and think, they’ve got all this money, who can they persuade to turn their backs on Europe and come back.

“You can bring him back but those in their prime, if they’re doing well, tough. Richarlison, maybe they’ve just got a shot.”

Tottenham remain keen to part ways with Richarlison

Richarlison’s White Hart Lane career has been blighted by injury problems and chronic inconsistency. The attacker has struggled to find his best form when he has been available. As such, the South American looks set to join a long list of Levy’s failed transfers at Tottenham.

Spurs are keen to part ways with Richarlison, and Palmeiras possessing the financial muscle to match Levy’s £55m valuation of the player bodes well for us. If Levy can manage to get around that fee, it would represent nothing short of a masterstroke.
