Brentford star Yoane Wissa has emerged as an option for Tottenham to replace wantaway forward Richarlison
It looks like Richarlison’s chapter at Tottenham Hotspur is coming to an end.
The Brazil international has spent three underwhelming years in North London after moving from Everton in a big-money deal. The 28-year-old has been linked with several clubs in recent months. Saudi Pro League clubs have shown an interest in Richarlison, while Turkey has been touted as a possible destination for him.
Recently, Palmeiras have been plotting an ambitious swoop for the Tottenham forward. They have opened direct talks with Richarlison over a deal to sign him this summer, with club president Leila Pereira personally involved in negotiations since the last couple of weeks. They are scared from meeting Spurs’ £55million price tag of their player.
As such, the North Londoners remain in the market for attacking reinforcements, and having signed Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United last week, they want to bring in a reliable back-up for Dominic Solanke. This has seen them consider a move for Brentford forward Yoane Wissa.
Yoane Wissa enjoyed his most productive season in the Premier League to date, scoring 19 goals and assisting a further four times in 35 appearances. He forged a lethal partnership with Bryan Mbeumo up front for Brentford following Ivan Toney’s departure to the Saudi Pro League, with the African duo tormenting Premier League defences with their speed, physicality, movement and creativity.
The 28-year-old has been ‘pushing’ to leave the Gtech Community Stadium and reunite with Thomas Frank at Tottenham. Frank, too, wants to team up with Wissa, having developed him into a reliable goalscorer in the Premier League.
John Wenham feels Yoane Wissa could be perfect Richarlison replacement
Now, reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham has backed the North Londoners to make a move for Wissa. He believes the DR Congo international could be the perfect player to replace Richarlison at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
“Wissa is a good player,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.
“He would slot in quite seamlessly as he’s worked with Thomas Frank and his coaching staff.
“However, I just think we have too many players at the moment. I think we’d have to see some outgoings first before we could add more players, certainly in that position.
“Wissa can play as an out-and-out striker, and out wide. Therefore, if Richarlison were to leave, then Wissa could replace him in the squad.”

Indeed, Spurs need to make some space in the forward department by moving on some deadwood, and Richarlison appears to be the best bet. Daniel Levy will hope Palmeiras splashes the cash quickly and signs Richarlison because a replacement needs to be sorted out before the new season begins.
And if Wissa is a concrete target, Levy must hurry up as Liverpool are also vying for his signature. The Reds are evaluating the transfer market for Luis Diaz’s potential replacements, and the Brentford star has emerged as a target. So, Tottenham do not have the luxury to move slowly.
