At the end of the last season, most of the Lilywhite supporters sang and celebrated Brennan Johnson, and he ended the campaign as a fan favourite at Tottenham Hotspur stadium, and it wasn’t just because of the numbers that he replicated along the season. The 24-year-old showed his capacity to step up in big games and literally wrote himself into the folklore at Hotspur Way by bagging that winner in the UEFA Europa League final against Manchester United.
If we look at it, his form at the end of the late season gave Tottenham an edge when it mattered most, and it looks like he has already won over the incoming boss at Tottenham, Thomas Frank.
Frank likes Brennan Johnson even before he took charge of Tottenham

With the North Londoners bringing in Mohammed Kudus in the ongoing summer transfer window complemented by Tottenham’s links to bring in another right-sided forward with the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Antoine Semenyo linked with a move to Hotspur Way, there has been a lot of talk about Brennan and whether he still has a starting role, but let’s be real, the former Nottingham Forest ace is not going anywhere.
If we look at it, the incoming Dane head coach wanted to sign Brennan during his time at Brentford before the Lilywhites brought him to N17 in 2023. And John Wenham, who is the owner of the reputed Spurs podcast Lilywhites Rose, in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, insists that ‘Frank and his coaching staff’ are long-time admirers of the 24-year-old Wales international, and now they finally get to work with him.
He said:
“Johnson knows that he is at a big club in Tottenham.
“Every club in the top six strengthens their squad each summer, and it’s good to see Tottenham doing that. It means that the likes of Johnson will need to improve themselves.
“But what he can always remember is that when Tottenham signed him, it was Brentford and Frank that were really pushing to get him as well. So he’s already got an admirer there in Frank and his coaching staff.”
Johnson has a knack, a knack far important than stepovers

If we look at Johnson, he is not someone who is going to try to embarrass his marker with stepovers, and we saw he was criticised for this many times across the last season, but then he brings something the North Londoners don’t have with his movements complemented by instincts and that deadly timing in the box. And let’s be honest, that is what ended up helping Tottenham win the Europa League; it was not eye-watering tricks but that knack for being in the right place at the right time.

The North Londoners will be looking to have Brennan at his best under Thomas Frank, and hopefully new arrivals will help to push him more.
