Tottenham Hotspur have been subject to links with multiple players from Brentford since Thomas Frank took charge of the proceedings at Hotspur Way earlier this summer, with the rumours to bring Nathan Collins and Bryan Mbeumo making a lot of noise in the transfer mill, but Yoane Wissa has slowly crept up as the most likely target for the Lilywhites, who can follow his former boss to N17.
We saw Daniel Levy give the incoming Dane head coach a marquee signing in Mohammed Kudus, and now he could be about to land another key piece from Thomas Frank’s old Brentford core, and this time, it’s Yoane Wissa.
According to the latest by TBR Football, the North Londoners are said to be going head-to-head with Newcastle United to attain the signatures of the 28-year-old forward this summer. And the report further states that Frank is confident that the Congolese international will choose North London over the North East if it were to come down to it.
And that does make total sense…
Thomas Frank has pulling power over Wissa

Wissa is being targeted by a few clubs (at least four or five), according to TBR’s senior transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey, but Thomas Frank is said to believe that his relationship with the 28-year-old will give his new employers an edge to land his signatures. He said:
“Yoane Wissa’s camp are speaking to four or five different clubs at the moment, Tottenham and Newcastle are two of them, and both would love to sign him.
“Thomas Frank, who worked with Wissa at Brentford, is confident that he would choose Spurs if it came down to it.”
If we look at Wissa, he is a player that Frank brought through at Gtech Community Stadium and trusted week in and week out before watching him find his stride. So you’d think that the bond is already there, and now it’s just about getting the deal done.
Newcastle are struggling while Levy is moving smartly

Newcastle United has had a patchy summer transfer window, which saw Eddie Howe’s side missing out on Joao Pedro, who moved to Chelsea, and then they couldn’t get Ekitike over the line with Liverpool leading the race to his signature. And now Wissa has ended up on their radar, but they’re running out of momentum at St James Park.
If we are talking about the North Londoners, Levy has been moving with clarity. Mohammed Kudus is right; the doors at N17 are getting sorted, and that Gibbs-White deal is getting sorted. And now Frank wants to round off his attack with a player who already fits in his system seamlessly.
Brentford don’t want to sell, but when it comes to Wissa, their hands might be tied
Wissa has his contract with the Bees due next summer, which makes them backed into a corner. The bosses at Brentford have already been pushed into the far end, with Thomas Frank leaving, followed by Christian Norgaard, who moved to Arsenal, and Bryan Mbeumo, who has been aggressively linked with a move to Manchester United.
At the moment, Brentford have put up a £50m price tag on Wissa, which they would hope would ward off suitors, but it may not be enough because if Tottenham want him and Frank clearly does, there surely is a pathway to explore.
