Tottenham Hotspur scouted Mainz attacker Nelson Weiper at the Under-21 European Championships
With Thomas Frank now calling shots at Tottenham Hotspur, things are moving fast in the summer transfer window, and the fans witnessed that with the arrivals of Kota Takai and Mohammed Kudus earlier this month. The club has also obtained Mathys Tel’s permanent signing, while a deal for Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White remains on a standstill.
There is still work to do in reshaping the squad, with Son Heung-min and Richarlison linked with potential exits. This means there still could be scope to bring in another attacker, especially with the Gibbs-White saga continuing to drag on. Spurs still remain the market for attacking reinforcements after the acquisitions of Tel and Kudus, and that has been evidenced by the recent developments.
It was reported at the start of July that Tottenham scouts had closely monitored the performances of Mainz striker Nelson Weiper at the Under-21 European Championships. The youngster was one of the best players in the U-21 Euro tournament, netting four goals in six games and playing a key role in Germany reaching the final.
Unfortunately for Germany, they lost the final 3-2 but Nelson Weiper caught the attention. The lanky striker had scored a bullet header in the first half against England to get his nation back in the game. His performances at a big stage have unsurprisingly piqued the interest of several clubs across Europe.

According to an exclusive report from Football Transfers, Arsenal have been keeping close tabs on Weiper, although they are yet to make a formal approach for the player.
Weiper only started seven Bundesliga matches last season mainly due to competition from Jonathan Burkardt. Overall, the 20-year-old managed netted three goals and supplied two assists in 23 appearances. Apart from Tottenham and Arsenal, Brentford have also shown an interest in the youngster.
The aforementioned report adds Mainz are eager to retain Weiper for at least another season and currently value him in the region of €14 million amid growing interest in his services.
Tottenham must enhance their pool of young talent by signing Nelson Weiper
Daniel Levy has adapted a youth-driven recruitment strategy in recent years, and the plan has worked out quite well with several talents shining in the Tottenham first team. Weiper, at 20 and with high ceiling, fits the bill perfectly at N17. He has been scouted well by the Spurs officials during the Under-21 Euros over last month, although they would face a challenge in signing the youngster as Arsenal have joined the mix.
As Tottenham are expected to loan out Will Lankshear, and Alejo Veliz having returned to Rosario Central on loan for the 2025/26 season, adding a young striker in Weiper to fill in the gaps in Thomas Frank’s squad would make total sense. Coming from a different country, the German starlet would be given time to develop at the club if he agrees to join. He is very young and would improve under the Danish boss’ coaching, and if Weiper adapts quickly to the demands of the Premier League, the striker might also get regular opportunities to play.
On that note, we must make a move for Weiper and bring him to N17 before Arsenal accelerates their pursuit.
