Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke was unavailable for Saturday’s pre-season games as a precaution with a minor ankle injury
Tottenham Hotspur played two pre-season friendlies on Saturday, with Thomas Frank picking two entirely different teams to face Wycombe Wanderers and Luton Town.
The Lilywhites kicked off the day with a 2-2 draw against Wycombe Wanderers in a behind-the-closed-doors friendly at Hotspur Way, followed by 0-0 draw with Luton Town at Kenilworth Road. It was a great opportunity for the new Spurs boss to evaluate his squad across two games, but Rodrigo Bentancur was pulled out of the first game at the last minute due to illness and replaced by academy kid George Abbott.
As Thomas Frank announced his squad to face Luton Town, another notable absentee was spotted by the fans. It was Dominic Solanke, who was not a part of either squad on Saturday, and the reason behind the striker’s absence has now been explained.
Dominic Solanke missed Wycombe and Luton friendlies due to ankle injury
Dominic Solanke featured for Spurs in the 2-0 win over Reading last weekend, but as a precaution with a minor ankle injury kept him out of action on Saturday. Tottenham delivered the news on their official X account shortly after announcing the team news.
An official statement read: “Dominic Solanke misses out as a precaution with a minor ankle injury.”

The 27-year-old was unavailable for both games against Wycombe Wanderers and Luton Town, which serves as a timely remainder to the Hotspur Way chiefs that they cannot entirely rely on him to lead their attack next season and must sign a striker this summer.
With Richarlison enduring another injury-ravaged season, Tottenham had no option but to heavily rely on Solanke last term. The expectations were extremely high on the England international after he arrived in a club-record deal from Bournemouth in the summer of 2024. However, an ankle injury, combined with inconsistency, led to him failing to live up to his high price tag and expectations of the White Hart Lane faithful in his debut season.
Thus, it an absolute must to bring in a new striker as a cover for Solanke before the 2025/26 campaign commences, especially with the North Londoners set to participate in the Champions League as well. Arnaud Kalimuendo has emerged as a target after his prolific season at Rennes, and Spurs officials must try their best to bring him in.
