Tottenham star expected to be ‘buzzing’ as Morgan Gibbs-White deal fall through

Date:

Tottenham star James Maddison will look to make his mark under Thomas Frank after Spurs missed out on Morgan Gibbs-White

Tottenham are struggling to end the summer transfer window on a high. The new Premier League campaign is on the horizon, and the Lilywhites are still looking to address the problems on the pitch. With the pre-season already commencing, Daniel Levy is being urged to make some moves and sign quality players if the club wants to compete on all four fronts next season.

It is fair to say that Thomas Frank has a huge task on his hands after replacing Ange Postecoglou at the helm. The ex-Brentford boss must look to build on the Europa League success next season, and that will start by bringing in reinforcements in the summer. Until now, Spurs have only managed to land one statement signing in Mohammed Kudus.

The Lilywhites were also close in landing a deal to sign Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White earlier this month. Daniel Levy triggered the 25-year-old’s release clause and a medical was also booked for the attacking midfielder. But Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis had other plans and put out all stops to force the England international to stay at City Ground for at least another season.

Tottenham star James Maddison might just get regular minutes under Thomas Frank

After an embarrassing end to the ‘Morgan Gibbs-White’ transfer saga, Tottenham must look to reset and look within the squad to fill the void in the number ten position. The Lilywhites already have James Maddison in their ranks that can prove to be a vital player under Thomas Frank. The England international has endured a ‘stop-start’ career during his time at N17, but he will be keen to impress the Danish tactician.

Now, ex-Villa star Gabby Agbonlahor also believes that Maddison would be ‘buzzing’ that Spurs failed to sign Morgan Gibbs-White. Speaking on TalkSPORT, Agbonlahor said,

“I’ll tell you who will be buzzing, though, James Maddison, because Morgan Gibbs-White would’ve taken his place. I don’t think you’re paying £60 million to sit on the bench.”

It is fair to suggest that Gibbs-White would’ve instantly taken James Maddison’s place in the starting eleven. Both players play in a similar position, and both are responsible for the creative output for their respective teams. With Thomas Frank preferring to play only one attacking midfielder, Spurs fans would have seen the Nottingham Forest star more often than Maddison in the starting eleven.

Now that the deal for the 25-year-old has fallen through, Maddison will hope to make his mark under Thomas Frank. The Spurs No.10 needs regular gametime in the upcoming season if he wants to get selected for the England squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. So, all eyes will be on the ex-Leicester star and fans will hope that he can live up to his expectations while donning the Lilywhite jersey.
