Thomas Frank hails Tottenham star who excelled in ‘tricky situations’ against Arsenal

While it was only a friendly, Tottenham Hotspur achieved a massive win over Arsenal in the North London derby in Hong Kong earlier today as the Lilywhites showed how they have come a long way in a really short time under new head coach Thomas Frank at Hotspur Way.

It was a game where Spurs were backed against a corner given the star-studded Gunners side, complemented by the injury problems that the Danish head coach has to deal with, but this squad came out blazing with a 1-0 win over the North London neighbours far off from the English shores.

Pape Sarr slotted in a beautiful long-range chip over David Raya, who was far off ahead in his own half, to give Tottenham the lead in the 45th minute, which stayed as the score when the referee blew the full-time whistle after six long minutes of extra time. But while the North Londoners supporters are celebrating that atrocious goal, the marquee summer signing, Mohammed Kudus, delivered an outstanding performance.

Kudus had an exemplary performance vs Arsenal

The former West Ham ace was all foot on gas, and then he showed how he was technically quite sharp and then, despite his offensive role, was relentless when it comes to the defensive side of things. And the Ghanaian gave us a glimpse of what the North Londoners supporters should expect out of him, and Thomas Frank didn’t hold back on his praise.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, the Dane head coach said:

“I think he was really good today Kudus. His hold-up play, the way he takes hold of the ball in tricky situations. His one-vs-one skills, his creating opportunities for the team was top class.

On top of that I think he’s working extremely hard and there was was recovery run from a set piece when he was straining all the way back and he won the ball back.

That’s how he can help the team so much. He will make a lot of the fans excited with his offensive actions and he will also help the team defensively.”

Thomas Frank is building something special at Tottenham

From what we saw today, Frank is building something special and that Kudus performance is just the start…

Thomas Frank is building a culture at Tottenham, and that is what we saw today in multiple moments across the game. And the Dane head coach knows exactly what he wants from this squad; it is not atrocious goals but a sense of discipline without dullness. Then what we saw from Kudus today might just be the best embodiment of that.

We saw how he skipped past players and past Arteta’s structure, but he still threw himself into recovery runs, and after what we saw from this side in Hong Kong, the Lilywhites faithful would be really hungry.

And under Thomas Frank, this blend could be the foundation of something more, something very deep that we are about to see at Hotspur Way.
