Tottenham have identified two key areas they want to reinforce to help Thomas Frank challenge on multiple fronts on 2025/26 season
Tottenham Hotspur delivered a new defensive midfielder for Thomas Frank on Sunday. The club announced the arrival of Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich for the 2025/26 campaign, with a €30m buy option.
Palhinha’s addition means Spurs have made four signings in this transfer window thus far, as new boss Thomas Frank looks to rebuild the squad that he inherited from Ange Postecoglou. The business is not yet with a couple of areas still requiring strengthening before the transfer window slams shut next month.
A return to the Champions League means Frank needs a squad with both quality and depth, and that is why every position is being strengthened. It is a clear sign that the Lilywhites want to compete on all four fronts next term, and fans will hope chairman Daniel Levy lives up to his promise of backing the Danish tactician to the hilt.

Tottenham keen to add a No.10 and centre-back to Thomas Frank’s squad
On the day Son Heung-min played his last game in our famous Tottenham shirt, the club were dealt a setback in the form of James Maddison. The England international was forced off against Newcastle United in the pre-season friendly in Seoul on Sunday. He was stretchered off having landed awkwardly on his ankle, and Frank stated in his presser that the injury was “bad”.
Now, according to a report from Football London, Tottenham are looking to add a new No.10 and a senior central defender to help bolster Frank’s squad for the forthcoming season.
The north Londoners have already been eyeing a creative midfielder even before Maddison’s nasty injury, as evidenced by Morgan Gibbs-White’s failed pursuit. But now, they desperately need one in that area of the pitch, especially with Dejan Kulusevski also set to miss the opening few games of the new season.
Frank wants to add another centre-back after Kota Takai’s summer signing, and the main reason for that is first-choice centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven both missed significant chunks of last season. This limited Romero to 26 and Van de Ven just 22 games, exposing the Lilywhites’ defence. Plus, the club has made young defender Luka Vuskovic available on loan, despite him impressing in pre-season tour, while Kota Takai has been ruled out for weeks with plantar fascia.

The report adds Spurs chiefs are ‘confident’ that they will have the required funds to fulfil their remaining transfer plans of this window.
Daniel Levy showing ambition?
Building on last season’s Europa League glory is extremely crucial, and at the moment it does look like Daniel Levy’s vision is clear as he wants to back our new gaffer in the transfer market to succeed. Also, the chairman would want to rebuild his image and strike some kind of relationship with our fans who have been extremely critical of his mode of working for years.
Hopefully, Levy and his team deliver a new creative midfielder and experienced central defender to help Frank enter the gruelling 2025/26 campaign well-equipped. It remains to be seen who Tottenham target, but Levy showing ambition will be a refreshing watch for the White Hart Lane faithful.
