Tottenham are preparing to accept loan offers for highly-rated defender Luka Vuskovic
Tottenham Hotspur have been working hard to strengthen their roster this summer, as new boss Thomas Frank looks to quickly implement his philosophy across the squad.
Joao Palhinha has become the club’s latest recruit, joining on a season-long loan from Bayern Munich. He is Spurs’ fourth summer recruit after the likes of Mathys Tel, Kota Takai and Mohammed Kudus. The Lilywhites are transitioning into the Thomas Frank era, so they are in further need of bolstering their ranks, especially after a serious knee injury to James Maddison in a pre-season friendly against Newcastle United.
Frank showed during his time at Brentford that he isn’t afraid of handing opportunities to young players, and with Tottenham fighting on all fronts next season, we could see some talents break into his side. There are also some players who have returned to N17 from successful loan spells and would be raring to feature for Tottenham in the forthcoming season. And one of those is Luka Vuskovic.
Luka Vuskovic signed for Spurs in September 2023 from Hajduk Split, but was only allowed to join up with the north Londoners last month after turning 18 years old due to post-Brexit rules and regulations. The central defender spent some time on loan in Poland with Radomiak Radom, before catching the eye with his performances for Belgian side KVC Westerlo last season.
The big Croat made a total of 36 appearances for Westerlo, demonstrating his set-piece prowess with an impressive seven goals. And Vuskovic has not taken much time to impress at Spurs. He impressed on his Tottenham debut during the summer’s first pre-season friendly against Reading in July, both scoring and assisting in the 2-0 victory.
Tottenham make Luka Vuskovic available for loan
Spurs are currently well-stocked in the centre-back department. Bar Radu Dragusin, who is out injured, Frank has the likes of Micky Van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Kevin Danso and Ben Davies as senior options. This effectively makes Vuskovic fifth-choice option, so the Danish boss has a decision to make on the teenager’s future.
And it looks like a decision has already been made. According to reliable Football London journalist Alasdair Gold, Vuskovic has been made available for loan this season.
A loan move in England would make total
Vuskovic’s talent and potential is irrefutable, but adaptability and growth in a new league takes time and patience. It would barely make sense for him to stay fourth or fifth choice centre-back in the squad and feature sporadically only in cup competitions. At 18, the Croatia international needs to build on his impressive loan Westerlo loan by playing regularly, and as far as the current centre-back situation at the club goes, he is unlikely to get constant minutes under Frank.
Thus, another loan move for the towering defender would be beneficial for his development. A temporary spell in the Championship would bode well, allowing Vuskovic time and opportunities to get used to the high-paced and intense nature of English football.
And after what he did for Westerlo in Belgium last season, it would not be surprising to see several quality clubs wanting to loan in the teenage prodigy who scores goals after Tottenham’s latest decision.
