Thomas Frank is carefully assembling his squad ahead of his debut campaign with Tottenham Hotspur.

The pre-season friendlies has given the Danish tactician a better insight into what players need to be brought in and let go this summer. So far, he has overseen the signings of Mathys Tel, Kota Takai, Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha and the departures of several young talents on loan.

Part of Thomas Frank’s remit this summer, along with chairman Daniel Levy and technical director Johan Lange, is to help the club’s youngsters and academy talent to help them pick proper clubs on loan for their development. Tyrese Hall has recently joined Notts County on a season-long loan, while Championship club Stoke City announced the capture of highly-rated Jamie Donley for the 2025/26 season. Now, another academy product from the Hotspur Way is heading out on loan.

Preston North End close to securing loan move for Alfie Devine

According to an exclusive report from Lancashire Post, Preston North End are close to completing a loan move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Alfie Devine. An option-to-buy could be inserted in a loan deal, although the fee may make a permanent transfer difficult for the Championship club.

Preston North End came worryingly close to relegation last term and will want to avoid a similar scenario come next May, which is why manager Paul Heckingbottom has been desperate to add more new faces to already nine signings made this summer. The team has been crying out for some attacking quality, and the board are about to deliver Devine’s signing from Tottenham.

Devine has previously enjoyed loan spells with Port Vale in League One and Plymouth Argyle in the Championship. The England youth international spent last term with Belgian Pro League side KVC Westerlo, netting six goals and supplying an assist in 30 appearances.

Tottenham’s plans to include a buy option in Alfie Devine’s loan agreement with Preston shows they are ready to move on the youngster permanently

Given his previous experience in the lower tiers of English football, Heckingbottom has identified the Spurs prodigy as an option to bolster his attacking midfield options ahead of the new Championship campaign. Devine could make an immediate impact at Deepdale whilst offering long-term potential.

Tottenham ready to move on Devine permanently

Talk of Spurs inserting a buy option in Preston’s loan agreement apparently suggest Devine has no future at White Hart Lane. He was a player rated highly across the club, and perhaps still is, but it looks extremely difficult for the 21-year-old to break into the Tottenham first-team and become a regular anytime soon.

As such, Devine has the opportunity to now impress at Preston for the upcoming season. If the Warrington-born talent does well at Deepdale, it could very well become his new home to launch his career.
