Tottenham manager Thomas Frank will hope that the club backs him in the summer as the Lilywhites prepare for a new era at N17
There is concern amongst the fanbase as Tottenham still need to address some problems on the pitch in the transfer window. The new season is upon us, and the Lilywhites are still looking to bring in more firepower that could help Thomas Frank in his first campaign at N17. With time running out, Daniel Levy is coming under immense scrutiny for the slow approach taken by the club during the summer.
The pre-season games have not gone to plan for the North London club as well. The results speak for themselves, and Thomas Frank’s men have struggled to control games more often than not. Spurs also suffered a heavy defeat against Bayern Munich earlier this week, showcasing how far behind the Lilywhites actually are in terms of progress and development.
To make matters worse, Spurs are now going to be without James Maddison for most parts of the season. The England international suffered an ACL injury in a pre-season game against Newcastle United. The attacking midfielder’s absence will surely trigger panic in the boardroom and the dressing room as we approach the business-end of the transfer market.
Thomas Frank believes Tottenham are still working on new signings
Perhaps, a bit of optimism is what the Tottenham fans need as the club prepares for life under Thomas Frank. There is a growing feeling at N17 that the Danish tactician is not backed properly in the summer, and he is already being hung out to dry by Daniel Levy. The lack of movement to bring in new players on both ends of the pitch is surely haunting the fans more than Levy could imagine.
However, the Spurs manager has different views on this and believes the club is still working on new deals. Speaking to the press after the humbling defeat against Bayern, Thomas Frank said (as transcribed by Football.London),
“I think we are definitely in the market in general. Of course, when players get a long-term injury, we need to look into that, but generally we are in the market yes. Nobody feels close or far away. I’m not saying anything before there’s anything that is completely 100%.”
The Spurs manager believes Tottenham are still in the market for new additions, and the club will act on a possible deal for a new player after James Maddison’s ACL injury was confirmed. Thomas Frank was sceptical in answering the question directly, but the Danish tactician said enough to suggest that the Lilywhites are looking to make another statement signing before the window ends.
There are strong reports linking Spurs to Manchester City star Jack Grealish. The England international is seen as a possible replacement of Heung-Min Son for the upcoming season. But he can also operate as a ‘number ten’ and fill the gap left behind by James Maddison. It remains to be seen whether Tottenham can strike a deal for Grealish’s services in the coming weeks.
