Tottenham-linked Brentford forward Yoane Wissa has his heart set on a move to Newcastle United
Tottenham Hotspur’s attacking ranks have been depleted after recent developments.
Son Heung-min decided to end his chapter at Spurs after 10 long years and join MLS club Los Angeles FC earlier this week. Losing such an experienced and consistent forward is such a big setback for Thomas Frank, who must also make do without James Maddison for the majority of the upcoming season. This is because the English playmaker sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) damage in the 1-1 friendly draw with Newcastle United in Seoul last week.
In addition, Dominic Solanke has missed majority of the pre-season games due to an ankle injury. Richarlison was a bright spark during the pre-season, but given his patchy injury record across three seasons in north London, he cannot be relied upon as neither a starting striker nor back-up.
This means adding a new striker to Thomas Frank’s ranks would appear to be a sensible move.

Tottenham target Yoane Wissa pushing for Newcastle United move
Spurs have been keeping tabs on Brentford forward Yoane Wissa since the start of the summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old played a key role for Brentford as they secured a tenth-placed Premier League finish last season, scoring 19 league goals. He struck an incredible partnership with Bryan Mbeumo up top after Ivan Toney’s departure to Saudi Pro League, ripping apart teams with their movement, link-up-play, directness, flair and pace.
While Mbeumo has managed to seal a big-money move to Manchester United after long negotiations last month, Yoane Wissa still continues to be a Brentford player. However, he has made his desire to leave the Gtech Community Stadium this summer.
Now, according to reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano on X, the DR Congo international is pushing to join Newcastle United. He has been left out of the Brentford squad to face Borussia Monchengladbach, fuelling further speculation over his future as Newcastle United look to poach him away to St James’ Park.

Should Thomas Frank use his charm offensive to hijack the deal?
Son’s departure, coupled with injuries to Solanke and Maddison, has left Thomas Frank scrambling for attacking options heading into next week’s UEFA Super Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain. In addition to a creative midfielder, the Dane certainly needs a new striker, and Wissa appears to be a smart fit on paper.
The Congolese has become one of the reliable forwards in the recent years in the Premier League under Frank’s guidance and coaching at Brentford. There is no doubt over the two sharing a great relationship, and given Tottenham’s requirement for a new No.9, our gaffer can at least try to persuade the 28-year-old to join his forces at N17.
While Wissa seemingly has his heart set on a move to Newcastle, there remains a window of opportunity for Frank and Tottenham to hijack a move.
