Tottenham Hotspur to test the waters for Crystal palace star Marc Guehi in the coming days

A solid and resolute defence will help Tottenham go deep in all competitions next season, whilst aiming to win trophies. The Lilywhites leaked a lot of goals last season under Ange Postecoglou, and a lot of that was due to the injury crisis at the club. Not only that, but Big Ange’s tactics and setup did not help the defence’s cause either as they struggled to maintain a high-line at all times.

But there is a massive change in the way Spurs operate under Thomas Frank. There is less chaos on the pitch, and the defence looks absolutely compact and strong. The Danish tactician wants his centre-backs to play out from the back while maintaining possession. And the highly-rated manager also wants the defensive line to maintain its composure and posture when out of possession.

Tottenham should reignite their interest in Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.

The only concern is Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven’s fitness heading into the new season. Thomas Frank will hope his first-choice centre-back pairing is fit for most parts of the season if the club wants to endure success. The Lilywhites do not have a lot of experience at the back for next season, so it is important that the key players are rotated as and when needed.

Tottenham get an opportunity to land Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi

Tottenham are looking to compete hard on all four fronts next season under Thomas Frank. And for that, the North London club must have a solid defence that concedes less chances as compared to other top teams. This is the only way the Lilywhites will have any chance of finish the upcoming season on a massive high.

There is no surprise that Spurs are aiming to bring in a new centre-back to add depth to the squad for the new season. It was reported earlier that the Lilywhites were keeping tabs on Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi as a potential signing. The England international has been a key player for the Eagles in recent seasons, and the North London club took notice of that.

Now, Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has hinted that the 25-year-old might exit the club. Talking to the press after the Community Shield final, Parish said (as per Fabrizio Romano),

“Of course, for players of that calibre to leave on a free, it is a problem. It needs a new contract or a conclusion of some kind.”

Marc Guehi’s Palace contract runs out next summer, so it is very likely that the Eagles would cash-in on the England international right now, instead of losing him on a free transfer. Fabrizio Romano (via X) also reported that an exit in the coming days is much more likely to happen as contract extension talks with the Eagles are on hold for now.

So, Spurs should look to grab this opportunity with both hands and focus on signing the Palace captain. He will instantly elevate the quality of the defence, and there is no doubt that he will thrive under Thomas Frank. The 25-year-old can operate as a left-centre-back, or as a makeshift left-back. Guehi is also good on the ball, and likes to defend 1v1’s against pacy striker or wingers.
