Heartbroken Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison vows to come back stronger from a cruel ACL injury
Everyone associated with Tottenham Hotspur suffered two heartbreaks last week.
Firstly, the departure of club legend Son Heung-min after 10 years in north London left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium faithful teary-eyed. It was perhaps the fitting way for him to leave Spurs for MLS outfit Los Angeles FC, having captained the club to Europa League glory in May. And the South Korean’s exit followed with the cruel injury news about James Maddison.
The England international was stretchered off in the clash against Newcastle United in Seoul, South Korea, and Thomas Frank’s initial prognosis of the injury was not a good one. It was revealed last week that the creative midfielder has suffered a torn ACL that will rule him out for most of the 2025-26 season.

James Maddison vows to come back stronger from ACL injury
James Maddison has now opened up on the heartbreak over his ‘cruel’ ACL injury. In a touchy Instagram post, the midfielder said that his ACL reconstruction surgery was successful. The Englishman also stated the people who “doubt, hate and mock” him will only motivate him to come back stronger from a serious knee injury.
The 28-year-old has had his fair share of critics over the years. From talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan to former Manchester United skipper Roy Keane, Maddison was heavily criticised for being inconsistent despite delivering the goods last season. He also admitted to being “scapegoated” by certain pundits for Tottenham’s dismal performances in the Premier League.
The attacking midfielder was a key part of the Tottenham team that tasted Europa League success. While a knee injury did not allow to participate in the final against Manchester United in Bilbao, the England international’s performances and contributions during the Europa League knockout stages simply cannot be ignored.

The Coventry-born talent is a strong character and will overcome the recent setback that has perhaps ruined his chances of representing England at the 2026 World Cup. It is a cruel blow for Maddison, who now has a long road of recovery ahead of him. We all wish to see him heal fully and come back stronger than before.
The serious knee injury to Maddison has effectively accelerated the North Londoners’ transfer activity, and they are working on a replacement to fill the void created in the squad. Spurs are set to go strong for Crystal Palace playmaker Eberechi Eze, who is also on the radar of our bitter rivals Arsenal.
