Tottenham boss Thomas Frank has decided to leave Yves Bissouma out of the UEFA Super Cup clash vs Paris Saint-Germain

Europa League winners Tottenham Hotspur are looking to win their second piece of silverware in the space of three months when they battle for the UEFA Super Cup with Champions League champions Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine.

Paris Saint-Germain are the overwhelming favourites going into the tie after achieving a historic quadruple last season. However, the Parisians’ heavy defeat 3-0 against Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup final demonstrates that they’re not invincible. Thus, Thomas Frank and Co. will believe they have a chance to stun the footballing world by beating PSG and winning the UEFA Super Cup.

Spurs had announced their squad to take on PSG at the start of the week and there were some notable additions. Dominic Solanke, Destiny Udogie and Radu Dragusin have travelled with the squad to Italy, although only the former is fit and available for selection. Udogie is closer to joining team training after a thigh problem had kept him out for the majority of the pre-season tour, while Dragusin continues his rehab from an ACL rupture.

However, Yves Bissouma has not travelled with the Spurs squad, and Thomas Frank stated the reason for the midfielder’s absence.

Yves Bissouma left out of Super Cup squad due to disciplinary issues

Yves Bissouma has been left out of Tottenham’s squad for the big European game against PSG due to disciplinary reasons. Frank told the media at a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s game that the Mali international has been punished for lack of punctuality.

“He [Bissouma] has been late several times and the latest time was one too many. With everything you need to give your players a lot of love but also have demands and there also need to be consequences and this time there was a consequence for that,” Frank was quoted by Football London.

Spurs are right in considering offers for the Mali international

This is not the first time that Bissouma has been in trouble off the field since he joined Spurs from Brighton in June 2022. The 28-year-old was suspended by the club for their first game of the 2024-25 season after video footage emerged on social media that appeared to show him inhaling nitrous oxide (laughing gas).

The Malian has not come close to realizing his potential at Tottenham due to a combination of highly inconsistent displays and poor choices off the field. He has entered the final year of his contract, and with no talks over new terms in sight, the Hotspur Way chiefs want to cash him in this summer. Turkish club Fenerbahce have shown interest in the combative midfielder, while Juventus from Serie A remain keen too. West Ham United are the latest club eyeing a move for him.

So far, Daniel Levy and Co. have struggled to offload Bissouma despite interest from many clubs. This could be down to the €15-20m valuation set for the player, but as we head into the final weeks of the transfer window, Tottenham officials should consider reducing the asking price to facilitate his exit.
