Tottenham manager Thomas Frank is determined to make a positive start to the season

One of the key differences that we could make out in Tottenham’s heart-aching defeat against PSG was the way Thomas Frank set up the team. The Lilywhites might have lost the game on penalties, but there were plenty of positive points to talk about how the team looked tactically resolute. The Danish tactician managed to play each player to their strengths against a tough opposition.

Looking at last season, Spurs were relying on ‘all-out attack’ from the get-go, regardless of who the opposition was. Ange Postecoglou was adamant to make the Lilywhites an exciting team to watch in every game. But it is clear to see that his tactics were always going to backfire once the other teams figured out his gameplan.

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank made the team tactically flexible against PSG in the UEFA Super Cup final.

Well, Thomas Frank’s way of operating and managing the team is a complete contrast. The Danish tactician is hands-on in his approach and prefers his team to be tactically flexible during the games, depending on how the other team is playing. This makes it tough for the opposition to get a sight of goal, as well as, makes players always play to their strengths throughout ninety minutes.

Aaron Lennon is positive about Thomas Frank doing well at Tottenham this season

Although Tottenham lost against PSG in the UEFA Super Cup final, there was a sense of excitement amongst the Spurs fans about the upcoming season. The Lilywhites looked strong and resolute against one of the best sides in Europe, and took the game all the way to penalties against all odds. Not only that, but Thomas Frank’s men managed to make life tough for the French giants by putting them on the backfoot for most parts of the game.

Now, Aaron Lennon believes that Spurs will look organised under the Danish tactician in the upcoming season. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 podcast, Lennon said,

“Their whole structure looked better. There was so much discipline and you need that in the Premier League.”

The Spurs icon added,

“There were too many times last season where the team were too open and they got exposed, but under Thomas Frank I think we are going to see a much more organised Tottenham side. Once the dust has settled from the defeat, they will feel a lot of positives.”

Aaron Lennon pointed out that Tottenham’s structure looked solid and the players were much more disciplined in their game against PSG. The ex-player added that the Lilywhites were too easy to play against last season under Ange Postecoglou as the tactics were not on point. But Lennon believes that Spurs will be ‘organised’ under Thomas Frank and there are a lot of other positives that the North London club will take out from their game against PSG.
