Tottenham boss Thomas Frank is already making a positive impression at N17 following his switch from Brentford
Many fans questioned Daniel Levy’s decision to sack Ange Postecoglou and hire Thomas Frank after the former led the club to Europa League success last season. But looking in hindsight, it feels like the club chairman made the right decision after all as the Lilywhites look much more tactically stronger under the Danish tactician. Not only that, but the players also look sharper and fitter ahead of the new season.
It is fair to say that Thomas Frank has already made a good impression at N17 as he looks to kickstart a new era. The ex-Brentford boss is clearly adamant to make Spurs ‘serial winners’ during his time at the club. And to achieve that, the highly-rated manager needs his players to work hard week in week out as soon as the new season commences.

The newly appointed Tottenham manager also wants his team to compete hard on all four fronts next season. This looks like a strong possibility after we saw Tottenham’s solid performance against PSG in the UEFA Super Cup final. The Lilywhites looked sharp and tactically solid for most parts of the game. And they were quite unlucky to lose to the reigning Champions League winners in a penalty shootout.
Tottenham boss Thomas Frank is much more ‘hands-on’ in training
Tottenham manager Thomas Frank is known for his tactical flexibility and his ability to bring out the best in his players. The Danish tactician has already made Spurs a tough nut to crack, proving that the players are adapting well to the manager’s system. Not only that, but there is one more factor that separate the ex-Brentford boss from everybody else.
Ex-Spurs player Stephen Kelly has shared Thomas Frank’s approach in training while his team prepares for games. Speaking on BBC Sport, Kelly said,
“It’s going to be very different to how Ange played because the gung-ho, all-out-attack didn’t seem to work for Spurs for a long time in the Premier League. I think Thomas Frank is going to be more pragmatic. He’s slightly more organised, from what I hear he takes every training session himself, he’s on the grass with the players.”
Stephen Kelly has pointed out that Thomas Frank’s approach is nowhere close to how Big Ange operated during his time at N17. The ex-player notes that the Danish tactician is ‘pragmatic’ in how he views the game, as compared to the ‘all-out attack’ football Ange Postecoglou preferred. Kelly adds that Thomas Frank is more hands-on in training and gets involved with the squad, which the players seem to like.

The difference between Ange’s side and Thomas Frank’s side is clear. The latter is really focused on making Spurs play a certain type of football that is going to be hard for the oppositions teams to break down. He also wants his team to be tactically flexible during games, shifting formations and positions while the match is being played. Fans will hope that the ex-Brentford boss continues to maintain his system as Spurs fight for trophies next season.
