“That’s a template”- Glenn Hoddle can see the vision as Tottenham Hotspur impress vs PSG

Tottenham can look back at the game against PSG with pride after giving their all against the French giants

Tottenham had the chance of winning a second major trophy in three months after going 17 years without lifting silverware. The Lilywhites came up against PSG in the UEFA Super Cup final in a one-off tie. And not much was expected from the North London club as the reigning Champions League winners were the clear favourites for clinching the title.

However, credit must be given to Thomas Frank’s men for the way they held their own against one of the best teams in Europe. The Lilywhites shocked everyone by being 2-0 up until the 85th minute of the game. And to be fair to Spurs, they deserved to be leading and winning the game after a resolute performance.

Tottenham almost caused an upset against PSG in the UEFA Super Cup final.

But tragedy struck in the last ten minutes of the tie as PSG managed to get one goal back. After that, it was all-out attack for the French giants and they managed to equalise in the last possible second via a diving header from Goncalo Ramos. To make matters worse, Luis Enrique’s side managed to come out on top in a penalty shootout to decide the winner.

Tottenham can take a lot of positives from the game against PSG

Despite the heart-breaking loss against PSG, Tottenham can take a lot of positives for the way they performed against the French giants. The Lilywhites managed to outplay the reigning Champions League winners for most parts of the game. Thomas Frank was also ‘proud’ of the way his team played against Luis Enrique’s men, despite losing on penalties.

Now, Glenn Hoddle has also reiterated the same message and suggested that Spurs should keep using the same template against big teams. Speaking on TNT Sports, Hoddle said,

“For me, when they analyse the performance, that will give them so much belief going into the Champions League. Playing against this great side that have won the Champions League, ‘we went toe-to-toe and more and over 90 minutes we were the better team’.”

The Spurs legend added,

“The substitutions made the difference, but at the end of the day, they have got a Champions League to play and I think that’s a template. The way they played there, don’t be surprised if they play Liverpool, if they play Manchester City, if they play Arsenal – that’s a template to play in the Champions League and maybe away from home.”

Glenn Hoddle suggests that Tottenham players will have a lot of confidence after reflecting on their performance against PSG, after the Lilywhites went toe-to-toe with the reigning Champions League winners. The club legend added that Thomas Frank will set his team up in the same way in the Champions League and also against top Premier League clubs like Liverpool and Manchester City. Not only that, but Glenn Hoddle believes that playing like they did against PSG will help Spurs reach the promised land.

Now it remains to be seen how Thomas Frank fares at N17 after a promising first game in charge of the North London club. The Danish tactician is keen to make Spurs ‘serial winners’ during his time at the club. To achieve that, he would have to get started on a positive note and win some big games from the get-go.
