Tottenham Hotspur full-back Djed Spence has agreed to a new contract

Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer window is really starting to kick into life, but they are not just working on incomings right now.

Spurs have brought in four players so far this summer and remain in the market for more. Chairman Daniel Levy is determined to see the club fight for trophies under new head coach Thomas Frank, whose side gave a tough fight to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup in Italy on Wednesday. Bringing in a few quality signings will not only give the Lilywhites a strong chance of building on the Europa League success, but also lift the mood of the fans after the heartbreaking loss to PSG.

Apart from bringing in new faces to the club, Tottenham are also looking to secure the future of certain players. And one of them is Djed Spence.

Club insider says Djed Spence has signed a new deal

According to club insider Paul O Keefe on X, Djed Spence has signed a new deal at Tottenham.

The new deal is the full-back’s second in a space of less than a year, after he penned a new four-year contract in October. Now, Spurs have moved to tie the 25-year-old down to fresh terms as they get their squad in order for a first full season under Thomas Frank.

It has been quite a turnaround in Spence’s Tottenham career. He arrived at White Hart Lane back in 2022 but was given next to no first-team opportunities for three years before finally coming back into the fold at the start of last season. The former England youth international was a crucial player under Ange Postecoglou’s guidance last term, particularly when filling in at left-back once Destiny Udogie picked up a thigh injury.

The 25-year-old cemented his spot at left-back since the turn of the year and delivered some solid performances. He turned out to be a key player in the north London club’s Europa League success, even though the full-back started the final against Manchester United on the bench. The London native started 19 games in all competitions during the 2024/25 campaign.

A right-back by trade, Spence played the full UEFA Super Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain as a left wing-back in midweek, as Tottenham lost on penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in Udine. The extension he signed last October was due to expire in 2028 but it’s thought his new deal will extend beyond that and certainly provide give him a pay bump.

Spence is expected to compete with Pedro Porro for the right-back spot, and if Frank prefers to use a back three system in the new season, we could very well see him feature often as a wing-back.
