Tottenham could offer up to £100,000 per week to renew South American ace’s fast expiring deal

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to splash the cash to retain Rodrigo Bentancur

One can argue that midfield is one of the areas of the Tottenham team where Thomas Frank would have to face some selection headache. The English manager has several exciting options for the three midfield spots.

In the UEFA Super Cup game against Paris Saint-Germain, the Spurs head-coach fielded the trio of Pape Matar Sarr, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Joao Palhinha. However, for the opening Premier League game of the season against Burnley, he decided to field Sarr with Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall in the middle of the pitch.

Bentancur was one of the players who came into the game in the second half, and although he was not a starter in this match, he still remains a very important player for Tottenham.

With his skills and experience, the Uruguayan can become a key player for Thomas Frank. However, his contractual situation is becoming a cause of concern for the North London side as he has only 1 year left on his contract, and he can start negotiating with other clubs as soon as January.

In fact, the Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have already shown an interest in the player, which could push Spurs to fast-track their operation to negotiate a new contract with the player.

Tottenham might offer the midfielder a wage raise

Talking to Tottenham News, the former Tottenham scout Bryan King expressed his belief that the North London side would be keen to offer a new deal to Bentancur, and this new deal could increase his wages significantly. The former scout went on to highlight that the Uruguayan’s wages can increase up to £100,000 per week with this potential new contract.

Over the last year or so, Bentancur has become quite an important player for Spurs. Despite his options, Thomas Frank would want to retain a player of his experience and skills in his Tottenham team, while his hard work and energy also make him a very useful player in the midfield.

Thus, it would make sense for the North London side to try to tempt him to extend his contract with an offer with improved wages.
