Eberechi Eze can be the next big star at Tottenham Hotspur but Arsenal have other plans
Tottenham Hotspur put on quite a satisfactory attacking display in the opening match of their 2025-26 Premier League campaign. The experienced forward Richarlison scored two memorable goals, while the new signing, Mohammed Kudus, put in two great assists.
After his good performance in the defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup, this performance against Burnley went on to raise hopes of the fans that Kudus is the player to become the next big star for the club.
However, Tottenham are still looking for a more reinforcements to their attack in these last few days of the summer transfer window. Talking to Tottenham News, the club insider John Wenham believed there is another player whose arrival can make him the poster-boy of this Tottenham team, i.e., Eberechi Eze.
Talking about Eze, Wenham expressed his belief that he would significantly enhance the Spurs attack if he joins:
“I think I’ve said this earlier in the summer with Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford”.
“I have Eze above all of these players. Would have Eze above Mogan Gibbs-White as well. He’s a special, special talent that will elevate us significantly and will become the kind of poster boy of the club.
“I’d be very excited about him if we can pull that off.”
Comparison with Maddison
There is no doubt that Eberechi Eze has the abilities to significantly improve the Tottenham attack, especially in a scenario when Son Heung-Min has left a gaping hole with his move to the MLS and James Maddison is also out with an injury.
In Maddison’s absence, Eze would provide a lot of creativity and stability up front. However, one can argue that he would even be a slight upgrade over Maddison, as a comparison the players on Fotmob from the last season shows.
Maddison was better than Eze in terms of accurate long balls, as he completed 2.03 long balls every 90 minutes, while the Crystal Palace forward had 1.18 accurate long balls to his name every 90 minutes. However, the latter was better than the Spurs star in terms of long ball accuracy, chance creation, crossing, and dribbling.
For now, Tottenham are working to ensure his incorporation in their team before the end of the summer transfer window. But if this operation is successful, there is no doubt that Eze has all the ingredients to succeed with Spurs.
However, the player is now closing in on a move to arch-rivals Arsenal following the injury to Kai Havertz. If the Gunners to land the player from right under our noses, Daniel Levy will find himself in a very uncomfortable position as far as the Lilywhite supporters are concerned.
