Tottenham identify Ligue 1 starlet as a cheaper alternative to Brazilian wing wizard

Tottenham Hotspur have identified Maghnes Agliouche as an alternative for Savinho

The last stretch of this 2025 summer transfer window has not gone too well for Tottenham Hotspur, as they have faced some important setbacks in the last few days.

For instance, they were apparently quite close to landing the Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, but Arsenal swooped in on the Englishman with a last-ditch hijack.

Meanwhile, the North London side was also unable to convince Manchester City to part ways with another of their top targets, the Brazilian winger Savinho. The Lilywhites put in two offers for the winger, the latter of these reaching up to £60 million, but the Citizens did not budge from their asking price of £70 million.

In such a context, the journalist Pete O’Rourke, while talking to Football Insider, revealed that Spurs are continuing to looking for a new playmaker, and now have identified the Monaco star Maghnes Agliouche as a cheaper alternative to Savinho.

In fact, Tottenham would have a clear coast in their pursuit of the Frenchman. The former Newcastle United director Paul Mitchell had previously shown an interest in the player back in 2024, but his departure now leaves Tottenham alone in their bid to get the midfielder.

Tottenham Hotspur have identified Maghnes Agliouche as an alternative for Savinho.

O’Rourke explains Tottenham’s reasoning

Talking about the transfer saga involving Tottenham, Savinho, and Agliouche, O’Rourke said:

“[Tottenham] have shown interest in Savinho at Manchester City, but City have rebuffed their interest so far, saying they don’t want to lose Savinho.”

“They’re trying to price the Brazilian out of a move, so Tottenham are looking at potential alternatives to him.

“The one that seems to be catching their eye at the minute is Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche, a 23-year-old who is a very talented young player, and would be a cheaper alternative to Savinho as well.”

With Spurs having lost James Maddison to a long-term injury and having missed out on their priority targets like Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze, it is not surprising to see them turning their attentions to other players for the playmaking role in their team.

Thomas Frank would also be keen to have another creative outlet in his team, and there is no doubt that Akliouche could well prove to be a good addition to this Tottenham team.

However, he is not the only forward being linked with the North London side in the aftermath of Arsenal’s hijack of Eze, as they are also linked with the likes of Xavi Simmons, in whom Chelsea are also interested, and the Real Madrid star Rodrygo Goes.
