Girona are seeking a late summer push to land Tottenham Hotspur star Bryan Gil
Tottenham’s summer transfer window could yet have another twist, with reports from Spain suggesting Girona are making a late push to sign Bryan Gil on a permanent deal.
The 24-year-old winger is back at Hotspur Way after another season on loan in La Liga, where he enjoyed regular football with Girona. Across 32 appearances, Gil chipped in with four goals and three assists, reminding everyone of his quality when given consistent minutes.
But under Thomas Frank, it’s become increasingly clear that Gil has no real future at Tottenham. The new Spurs boss has leaned heavily on attackers like Mohammed Kudus, Mathys Tel and Brennan Johnson, while also pursuing further reinforcements in the market. In that context, Gil is firmly on the fringes, and the club appear open to sanctioning an exit before the deadline.
Girona’s push for a deal
According to Spanish journalist Nil Solà via X, Girona have “reactivated the option” to sign Gil permanently this week. Their preference is for a deal similar to the one that saw Àlex Moreno join Real Betis – essentially a free transfer following a contract termination.
What strengthens their hand is Gil’s own stance: reports claim he has shown “total willingness” to rejoin Girona, where he feels valued and enjoys the style of play. The Catalan side, now a growing force in La Liga, would be an attractive long-term home for the player.
A win-win for all parties
From a Tottenham point of view, this looks like a move that suits all parties. Gil has shown glimpses of talent since joining from Sevilla in 2021, but he’s never truly adapted to the Premier League’s intensity. Loan spells at Valencia, Sevilla and now Girona have underlined that he is far more comfortable in Spain’s top flight.
For Spurs, offloading him permanently would free up squad space and wages, while ensuring Frank has clarity in his attacking department heading into a packed season. Ideally, the club would secure a transfer fee rather than let him go for free, but much depends on negotiations in the final days of the window.
Tottenham fans had high hopes for Bryan Gil when he first arrived, but after three years of inconsistency and repeated loans, the writing is on the wall. Girona’s move feels inevitable, and if it allows Spurs to focus fully on players who can deliver in Frank’s high-tempo system, it may well be best for everyone.
