Tottenham defender Luka Vuskovic is set to join newly-promoted Bundesliga club HSV Hamburger on loan for the 2025/26 season
Several of Tottenham Hotspur’s talented youngsters have already sealed loan moves over the last few weeks, as Thomas Frank with the help of Daniel Levy and Johan Lange carefully planned their steps for development.
With still just over a week left for the transfer window to slam shut, there is expected to be both incomings and outgoings at Spurs. The hunt for more signings continues, with Manchester City winger Savinho still firmly on the agenda. But while the focus has been on arrivals, the future of several players currently at Thomas Frank’s disposal needs sorting out.
Reputed journalist Alasdair Gold stated earlier this month that the club have made Luka Vuskovic available for loan this season. Thomas Frank got the chance to evaluate the towering Croat’s displays in the pre-season, and while he did impress, the Spurs gaffer perhaps felt another loan spell would do well for his development.

It has been widely reported that Luka Vuskovic is attracting loan interest from several clubs across Europe on the back of his impressive 2024/25 season in Belgium with KVC Westerloo. One club appeared to be favourites to sign the teenager, with recent reports indicating that newly-promoted Bundesliga club HSV Hamburger had agreed personal terms with the defender ahead of a potential move.
HSV Hamburger in negotiations with Spurs for Luka Vuskovic loan
According to transfer news guru Fabrizio Romano on X, HSV Hamburg are close to completing loan deal for Vuskovic. They are in negotiations with Tottenham, with an agreement expected to be thrashed out soon.
Hamburg have been vying for the teenager defender’s signature in recent weeks and they are finally about to sign him for the 2025/26 season. It looks like Luka’s elder brother, Mario, who plays for the Bundesliga side, has done enough behind the scenes to help them convince of a temporary spell.
Vuskovic featured for Frank’s side in pre-season and was an unused substitute for the UEFA Super Cup final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain and victory over Burnley in their Premier League opener. Cristian Romero and Micky Van de Ven were the starting centre-backs against PSG and Burnley, and they are expected to remain the preferred pairing for Tottenham, unless there is an injury or Frank decides to give them breather in cup competitions.
So, Vuskovic staying at N17 and getting sporadic minutes makes no sense. At 18, the Croatia international needs to play regularly to continue his development and fulfil his true potential in the upcoming years. Hopefully, the lanky defender gets ample minutes to shine at Hamburg, whose first and foremost priority will be to retain Bundesliga status.
Vuskovic has the potential to be Tottenham’s leading centre-back for the next decade, and that is exactly why this loan move to Volksparkstadion holds immense importance.
