Tottenham Hotspur unlikely to land Como star Nico Paz deapite mammoth €70m transfer bid

Tottenham Hotspur are continuing with their quest to add another attacking midfielder to their squad as the 2025 summer transfer window approaches its last few days.

Spurs saw Son Heung-Min leave for MLS this summer and also saw James Maddison suffer a long-term injury during the preseason. As a result, the North London side is keen to bring another quality forward to Thomas Frank’s team for a season in which they will be competing for both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League titles.

After seeing Arsenal derail their operation to sign the Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, Spurs have now turned their attentions to other players to mitigate this problem in their midfield. However, they were also unable to land another of their preferred targets for this position, the Como midfielder Nico Paz, and saw two of their big offers turned down.

The Argentine pearl would undoubtedly have been a very good addition to this Tottenham side. He is performing at a very high level in Italian top-flight football despite being only 20 years of age. In fact, he once again showcased his goalscoring skills as Como faced Lazio in their second Serie A match on Sunday.

Cesc Fabregas relaxed about the midfielder’s situation

As per a report from Fabrizio Romano, the Como head coach, Cesc Fabregas, also addressed the situation surrounding the Argentine starlet after this game. The Spaniard made it clear that he was very calm about the young midfielder’s situation:

“I’m very calm and relaxed, Nico is very happy here at Como. He’s a top, top player”.

Spurs had made a lot of effort to land Paz in this late stage of the summer transfer window. They made their first offer for the player back in the start of August, and then put in an improved offer, which was also rejected. The latest bid of €70m has gotten us nowhere either.

It is easy to understand why Tottenham were so keen to land the player. If his performances in Italy are anything to go by, he would have provided Thomas Frank with a very good option for the attacking midfield position in the immediate term, while his 20 years of age mean he still could have gone on to improve even further in the years to come.

But for now, the North London side will have to turn its attentions to other players, and hopefully they will land one of these before the transfer window closes.
