Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers urged to ignore Tottenham Hotspur transfer
Tottenham are leaving the hunt for a new attacking midfielder for the last few days. The Lilywhites have still not managed to sign a #10, despite looking for one since the start of the transfer window. And to make matters worse, Thomas Frank has also been dealt with bad cards following James Maddison’s untimely injury. The England international ruptured his ACL earlier this month in a pre-season friendly.
As we all know, the Spurs manager relies heavily on his attacking midfielder during build-up play. Not only that, but the Danish tactician also wants his #10 to press high and win the ball back higher up the pitch. For now, Thomas Frank has been playing Pape Matar Sarr in that attacking role. But that cannot continue for long if the Lilywhites want to compete hard on all four fronts.
Credit where its due, Pape Matar Sarr has played quite well in that #10 role for Spurs in recent games. The Senegal international was arguably one of the standout players in the match against Manchester City. And he played a crucial role in helping the Lilywhites score two goals against Pep Guardiola’s side by pressing high and winning all second balls.
Tottenham are still willing to sign Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers
It was reported earlier that Tottenham are keeping tabs on Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers in recent days as they look to sign a new attacker. The Villans are still looking to be on the right side of the PSR rules and might look to sell some of their key players if the right offer comes in during the last few days of the transfer window. The report also stated that Spurs have already started preliminary talks to land the England international in the coming days.
However, Stefan Borson believes Rogers can certainly aim to sign for a better club if he is to leave Aston Villa now. Speaking to Football Insider, Borson said,
“I’d be really surprised if they sold Morgan Rogers and I actually think two things. One, probably there’ll be other bidders if he is on the market, even now.”
The finance expert added,
“And secondly, with the best will in the world, will he see Spurs as a move that he wants to make? It wouldn’t surprise me if he just thinks that’s not the upgrade I’m looking for.”
Stefan Borson does not believe that Aston Villa will sanction a move for Morgan Rogers right now as we approach the business-end of the transfer window. However, the finance expert believes that many top teams will be in the race to land the England international if the Villans do decide to sell him. Borson also thinks that Rogers might end up snubbing Tottenham as moving to N17 is not necessarily an upgrade at this stage.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Morgan Rogers at Aston Villa. Often described as a ‘fantastic’ player, the 23-year-old is hoping to take his game to the next level this season. And Spurs would pull off a brilliant signing if they manage to land the England international in the coming days.
