€90m South American star has no intention of asking to leave current club amid Tottenham interest

Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in an unusual situation this summer, where they seem to have endless money to spend on players but don’t have many targets who want to come to the N17. It is a classic twist on the supply-demand issue that tends to disrupt supply chain in manufacturing industries.

One of the major moves that Daniel Levy & co. made very early in the summer was appointing Thomas Frank as the new manager. The Danish tactician replaced former manager Ange Postecoglou who has a special place etched in Spurs’ history for lifting the Europa League trophy last season.

Spurs have also made a couple of signings so far this summer. Mohammed Kudus has arrived from West Ham United in a blockbuster move while Joao Palhinha has returned to the Premier League on loan after a couple of horrendous seasons for Bayern Munich. Both players have instantly hit the ground running.

Tottenham wanted to sign Rodrygo

Real Madrid are open to the idea of loaning Rodrygo to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

One player that Tottenham have been linked with, ever since Son Heung-min left the club to join Los Angeles FC, is Real Madrid superstar Rodrygo. The North London club wanted a marquee player to replace the exiting South Korean star, and the South American made a lot of sense on paper.

However, now, as per Spanish outlet AS, Rodrygo has made a decision to stay at Real Madrid this summer despite Tottenham’s interest. The player has spoken with Xabi Alonso about his preference to play on the left wing and having agreed on it, the South American has no intention of asking to leave the Spanish capital.

A very ambitious transfer attempt from the onset

Against Real Oviedo in Madrid’s most recent La Liga game, Alonso started Rodrygo ahead of Vinicius Jr. on the left wing. The €90m-rated star played a good game against the newly promoted side but was replaced around the hour mark. He is expected to be direct competition to his compatriot on the left wing.

From a Tottenham perspective, this comes as a transfer blow, but realistically speaking, this was a very ambitious transfer target for Spurs. It comes as no surprise to see the player decide to remain at Real Madrid. It would be interesting to see how his time under Xabi Alonso pans out.
