Tottenham Hotspur are still active in the transfer market as they look to bolster the squad depth for this summer
It is now an open secret that Tottenham are looking to bring in a new #10, as well as, a new left-winger. The Lilywhites have not endured a smooth sailing in the summer and have missed out on several players due to the incompetency shown by Daniel Levy. And now, as we approach the business-end of the transfer window, the North London club is left with a huge task of addressing persistent issues on the pitch.
Daniel Levy and Co. promised to back Thomas Frank in the summer and bring in the players needed to build on the Europa League success. The Spurs chairman was keen to get the ball rolling early and managed to bring in Kota Takai and Mohammed Kudus in quick succession. The Lilywhites also managed to sign Joao Palhinha a few weeks back in order to strengthen the midfield.

Despite managing to bring in these players, Spurs have still endured a disappointing summer by their standards. The Lilywhites missed out on Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze last week, despite agreeing personal terms with the player. Daniel Levy could not reach an agreement with the Eagles for Eze’s signature, and that gave Arsenal the opportunity to hijack the deal at the eleventh-hour.
Tottenham looking to strengthen their defence before the window shuts
Tottenham’s horrific performances in domestic competitions last season were mainly due to the fact that the North London club endured an injury crisis at the back. The Lilywhites were without their key centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven for most parts of the campaign as they recovered from long-term injuries. The lack of depth at the back meant that Ange’s men were conceding goals week in week out.
Taking notice of that, Spurs are looking to not repeat the same mistake and are aiming to bring in a defender in the coming days. As per Fabrizio Romano (via GiveMeSport),
“It (signing a defender) could be an option, but it will also be based on funds available as a winger and No.10 are needed.”
The Lilywhites need to be smart in the coming days of the transfer window if they want to address all the issues on the pitch. Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Spurs are looking to bring in a new centre-back in the summer if the club has enough funds left. The deal to sign a new defender will depend on Daniel Levy’s ability to quickly land a #10 and a left-winger first.
It was reported earlier that Tottenham are keeping tabs on Brentford defender Nathan Collins. The Englishman was recently named Brentford’s club captain for this season, which strongly indicated that the Bees have no intention of losing him right now. The report also stated that Liverpool are also in the race for his signature. So, Daniel Levy would have to work his magic to land the prolific centre-back.
