Tottenham advised not to pay over the odds for Manchester City winger Savinho

Tottenham Hotspur are now working very hard to sign new players after missing out on Eberechi Eze. Spurs seemed to be favourites to get a deal done for the England international, but sluggish and arduous negotiations allowed their arch-rivals Arsenal to hijack the Eze deal.

The White Hart Lane faithful are furious with Daniel Levy for missing out on Eze to Arsenal, and rightly so. It has been long known that James Maddison has suffered a torn ACL and will miss significant chunks of this season, yet to dillydally in pursuing the primary attacking midfield target and then losing him to bitter nemesis has only deepened the pain for our fans.

Additionally, the Lilywhites have been vying for the signing of Manchester City winger Savinho. The Brazil international has caught the eye with some of his performances for Manchester City over the last year, and Tottenham officials have been impressed with him. The young winger remains eager to secure more consistent playing time ahead of next summer’s World Cup, and he has been pushing to join Thomas Frank’s forces at N17.

Tottenham urged not to break the bank for Manchester City winger

An opening £40m bid for Savinho was rejected by Man City earlier this month. Now, as per reports, Tottenham are preparing an improved offer worth around €85m including bonuses- a figure that would smash the club’s current record signing of £65m for Dominic Solanke last summer.

This comes after a City official has been blocking the 21-year-old attacker’s move to Tottenham, but Daniel Levy and Co. remain determined in their efforts to land him this summer. However, reputed podcast Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham feels Tottenham must not break the bank for Savinho and the money would be better off invested in another player.

“I don’t know if he’s worth that sum of money when you get Kudus for £55m,” John Wenham exclusively told Tottenham News.

“I just don’t see now they’re talking, oh I’ll put the value up to £80m I don’t know if it’s pounds or euros, but it’s an obscene amount of money. He’d be our record-breaking signing.

“I just think there are other players you could get in the market for significantly better value than most fees. I think Savinho’s a good player, I make no mistake about that, but the money being talked about, I just think, is a lot.”

Desperate times for Spurs

Mohammed Kudus swapped West Ham for Spurs in a £55m deal, and after a strong start to his N17 career, that fee seems like a snip. In contrast to Kudus’ fee, Levy is now ready to spend an eye-watering fee of around €85m in an attempt to sign Savinho.

Savinho is a good player with huge potential. He is just 21, so there is a lot of room for improvement. But, with all due respect, the Man City man is not worth anything close to the sum Spurs are willing to spend to sign him during the final week of the transfer window. The South American trickster has had just one season of Premier League football under his belt, which makes spending such a big amount on him ludicrous.

While some fans may think Levy spending big on Savinho would be a statement to the rest of the Premier League, we feel it is desperation to save face after missing out on Eze.
