Liverpool attacker Harvey Elliott might end up switching clubs in the coming days amid Tottenham links
The clock is ticking over as Tottenham look for desperate means to land a new attacking midfielder. The Lilywhites have suffered enough in the summer after missing out on key targets for the #10 position. To make matters worse, the North London club have shown all their cards in the process of landing a new player twice, while failing to eventually sign them.
First came Spurs’ attempt to sign Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White last month. Daniel Levy triggered the release clause to land the England international and the deal look straightforward, with the player keen to switch clubs. But Forest accused the Lilywhites of breaching the confidential contractual details, forcing the North London club to back down. Gibbs-White also ended up extending his contract at City Ground.
Then came the transfer saga involving Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze. The 27-year-old agreed all personal terms with Spurs and the only thing left to do was to find an agreement with the Eagles for his transfer. Daniel Levy pondered over it for too long, giving Arsenal an opportunity to come at the eleventh-hour and hijack the deal.
Tottenham still hoping to land Liverpool attacker Harvey Eliott
It was reported earlier that Tottenham are keeping tabs on Liverpool star Harvey Elliott for quite some time. The England U-21 international has lost his way at Anfield under Arne Slot, with barely any game time under his belt since last season. The report also stated that Thomas Frank has held direct talks with the Liverpool attacker in the hopes of convincing him to join the Lilywhites in the summer.
Now, David Ornstein has issued an update on Elliott’s future as we approach the business-end of the transfer window. Writing for The Athletic, Ornstein said,
“Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott is one to watch over the coming days. Given that Liverpool do not have a plethora of players in Elliott’s position, it is not certain he will go.”
The journalist added,
“But many are watching the England Under-21 attacker, and he will want more game time this season than last, so a move remains plausible.”
David Ornstein has indicated that Liverpool are not willing to sanction a move for Harvey Elliott as they do not have enough depth in the #10 position. However, the reliable journalist adds that the England U-21 international wants to play regularly after enduring a disappointing campaign last season. Ornstein has also added that the Reds cannot offer Elliott more game time, and therefore, a move is possible in the coming days.
Now, Spurs should do everything it takes to test the waters for Harvey Elliott. The England U-21 international can either play as a #10, or as a right-winger. Not only that, but his quickly link-up play with other players, as well as, his ability to dribble through tight spaces will give the Lilywhites a different dynamic. He would also be a good replacement of James Maddison in the team, following the midfielder’s recent ACL injury.
