Tottenham Hotspur defender Radu Dragusin urged to call it quits at N17
Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin has slowly fallen down the pecking order under various managers since making the switch to N17. The Romania international has not exactly managed to prove his worth in North London, despite arriving at the club with high expectations. And it is fair to say that numerous injury issues have not helped his cause as well.
The 23-year-old was not a regular feature under Ange Postecoglou last season as well. As per Sofascore, Dragusin featured just 28 times for the Lilywhites in all competitions last season, leaving fans to wonder if he could be relied upon for crucial games week in week out. The ex-Juventus defender has certainly not done anything positive to indicate that he is under consideration to play a crucial role for Thomas Frank.

It was also reported earlier that Dragusin was expected to be out for a while after rupturing his ACL earlier this year. The Romania international has been on the sidelines for quite some time now, and that has halted his progress at N17 considerably. The Lilywhites have also brought in a new centre-back in the summer in Kota Takai as a potential replacement of Dragusin for this season.
Radu Dragusin should consider leaving Tottenham in the coming days
It is fair to say that there is intense competition for the ‘centre-back’ position for Tottenham this season. The Lilywhites already have two key starters in Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven that will feature for Thomas Frank regularly. And if one of them is injured, then Kevin Danso is considered to be the second-choice defender. Spurs also have Ben Davies, Kota Takai, and Luka Vuskovic waiting in the wings.
So, it is clear to see that Radu Dragusin is not going to get regular gametime at N17 this season. Taking notice of that, Jermain Defoe has urged the 23-year-old to leave the club for pastures new. Speaking on Sky Sports (via TBR Football), Defoe said,
“Again, if you are him, he had the injury as well. If you are him and you want to play football, I would go somewhere to play football, yeah.”
Jermain Defoe pointed out that Radu Dragusin’s long-term injury has not helped his cause at N17. The club icon also believes that the Romania international is going to find it hard to play regularly under Thomas Frank this season due to the intense competition in his position. And that is why Defoe wants the 23-year-old to leave for pastures new in the coming days if he wants to feature regularly.
It was reported earlier that Dragusin was linked with a summer exit as Inter Milan stepped up as potential candidates for his signature. But the deal fell through and the Serie A giants shifted their focus on other alternatives instead. However, it was also reported that Spurs would be willing to let the £25m rated defender leave in the summer if a suitable offer came in for his services.
