Tottenham Hotspur urged to hijack Chelsea’s move for RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons
Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for attacking additions in the summer transfer window, trying to compound on their impressive start to the new season.
It has not been a great transfer window for Spurs thus far. Apart from the marquee Mohammed Kudus deal and Joao Palhinha signing on loan from Bayern Munich, the club have faced disappointment in bringing in new players. The Hotspur Way chiefs failed with a move to sign Morgan Gibbs-White, who signed a new deal at Nottingham Forest, before losing top target Eberechi Eze to bitter north London rivals Arsenal.
Another rejection has come in the form of highly-rated Como playmaker Nico Paz. The young Spaniard’s decision to turn down a move to Tottenham has been revealed, with Paz wanting to fulfil his dream of wearing the Real Madrid jersey in the future.
Spurs have been on the lookout for a No.10 ever since James Maddison’s unfortunate ACL injury, and with time not their friend anymore, options in the market are now at a premium. Thomas Frank has been forced to play Pape Matar Sarr in the No.10 role in the opening games of the Premier League season, and whilst he has done well, the youngster is not a creative player and the Lilywhites desperately need someone to fill Maddison’s void.

Tottenham urged to quickly hijack Chelsea’s move for RB Leipzig star
As per latest reports, Tottenham are plotting a stunning transfer hijack and could pip Chelsea to the signing of highly-rated RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons.
Xavi Simons, who also happens to be a Spurs target, has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks. The Club World Cup champions have been long-term admirers of the Netherlands international but have so far been unable to reach an agreement with RB Leipzig due to a lack of sales. They have already agreed personal terms with the player, but failure to move on players surplus to Enzo Maresca’s requirements have left the door open for a potential hijack.
Now, former Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers chief scout Mick Brown has urged Tottenham to quickly close out a deal for Simons under Chelsea’s noses.
“Missing out on Eze was a huge blow for Tottenham,” Mick Brown exclusively told Football Insider.
“It’s a position the manager wants to strengthen because of the injury to James Maddison. But now they’re going to have to look at a few other options.
“I’m a bit worried about Tottenham and how they’ve struggled to get deals over the line, and I think too much of it has played out in the public eye. But one player I hear they’ve been looking at is Xavi Simons.
“I’ve heard good things about him, and he’s clearly a decent player because Chelsea have been interested in him for pretty much the whole summer.
“If Tottenham have identified him as an option, they’ll have to move quickly and quietly to get it done. They can’t afford to keep missing out on targets.
“If they want him, go and get him, and do it without making everybody aware of what you’re doing.”

Simons will be a good fit at Tottenham
Simons is an exciting, young playmaker who can operate in multiple attacking positions. He is quick, nimble and thrives in transitions by drifting between the lines. The 22-year-old has also got decent experience of European football under his belt, which could come in handy for a Spurs side set to compete in the Champions League this season.
The Dutchman possesses the required qualities to thrive in Frank’ system at White Hart Lane. Should Levy and Co. be able to pull off this hijack and pip Chelsea to Simons’ acquisition, this would be one of the coups of the entire summer transfer window. With not long left to go in the transfer window, Spurs must act quickly.
