West Ham United are ready to let Lucas Paqueta leave amid Tottenham Hotspur interest

Tottenham Hotspur faced quite a humiliating setback in the market a few days ago as they saw their very advanced operation for the Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze hijacked by their North London rivals Arsenal.

Spurs were keen to bring the Englishman into their team, especially as they want more offensive reinforcements following Son Heung-Min’s departure and James Maddison’s serious injury during the preseason.

After missing out on the Palace star, the Lilywhites have now turned their attentions elsewhere, and are now being linked with several other forwards and attacking midfielders in this late stage of the summer transfer window.

Among these names being linked with Spurs is also the Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta. As per a report from Daily Mail, the player is looking to leave West Ham United after a difficult last year, and the Hammers are also open to letting the midfielder leave, especially as they want more new players following a dismal start to the new season.

Paqueta has been cleared by the FA

The last year or so has not really been easy for the Brazilian midfielder, as he has battled betting allegations. However, he was recently cleared by the FA of spot-fixing charges, and Tottenham and Aston Villa are two clubs currently interested in his signing.

Although Thomas Frank’s team has had quite a good start to the season, getting a 3-0 win over Burnley in the opening match of the Premier League season before getting another excellent 0-2 win over Manchester City. As the team’s performances in these two matches showed, the team’s attack is not really lacking.

However, the season ahead is long and hectic, and Spurs would ideally want to get another forward or attacking midfielder before the transfer window closes. Lucas Paqueta, with his Premier League experience and proven quality, would be quite a welcome addition to the Lilywhite squad.

His alleged involvement with betting might bring some reputational damage for the club, but having been cleared by the FA, this should not be too much of a problem for Tottenham, especially as he has also returned to the Brazil national team. For now, it remains to be seen how this last stretch of the transfer window will pan out for Spurs, with several players being linked with them.
