Three more PL clubs enter the fray for Madrid ace as Tottenham face stiff competition

Tottenham need to pick their battles as the Lilywhites look unlikely to land Conor Gallagher

It is turning out to be an underwhelming summer for Tottenham after failing to bring in new players in the last few days of the transfer window. The Lilywhites have been in the market for quite some time, looking for opportunities to strengthen their squad if the right player becomes available. However, the North London club has not managed to do that yet since signing Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha earlier.

With the clock ticking on and time running out, Spurs need to up their ante and bring in a new midfielder before it is too late. The Lilywhites are looking to sign a player that could partner up with Joao Palhinha in the heart of the midfield as a box-to-box midfielder. As of now, the North London club does not necessarily have enough depth in the #8 position.

Tottenham need to pick their battles as the Lilywhites look unlikely to land Conor Gallagher.
Tottenham are not the only ones willing to land Atletico Madrid star Conor Gallagher in the coming days.

Signing a player that could either play as a #8 in a midfield three option, or as a #10 just behind the striker is seen as a priority for Tottenham. Thomas Frank relies heavily on his midfielders to win the ball higher up the pitch and create chances. So, signing a player that could adapt to the Danish tactician’s system and thrive in it must be signed if the right opportunity arises.

Tottenham need to fend off competition for Atletico Madrid star Conor Gallagher

It was reported earlier that Tottenham were looking to sign Conor Gallagher, after viewing the England international as the perfect player to play in the middle of the park for the Lilywhites. The 25-year-old is made available in the market after a successful stint in Spain. And the North London club were also prepared to shell out £50m for his signature.

However, Spurs are not the only ones vying for his signature in the coming days. As per Graeme Bailey (via TBR Football),

“Don’t rule Newcastle out of this either, especially since they’ve lost Joelinton and Sandro Tonali (to injuries). If they lost Bissouma, could Tottenham come into it? Possibly. I’d keep an eye on Newcastle, and I think there are quite a lot of Premier League clubs interested in him.”

The journalist added,

“I wouldn’t rule Everton out either. I think half the Premier League have inquired about him, asked about him. Manchester United will be aware of him too.”

The Lilywhites are not the ones willing to make a move for Conor Gallagher in the coming days. Daniel Levy will need to fend off competition from Newcastle United, Crystal Palace, Everton, and Manchester United for his signature. All these clubs want to strengthen their midfield before the window ends. So, it is fair to say that Spurs face an uphill battle to land the 25-year-old.

Well, signing Gallagher would be seen as a major coup, considering the midfielder can play either as a #8, or as a #10. His relentless energy to run back and forth, along with his ability to make an impact on both ends of the pitch, is seen as a real plus point. Not only that, but Gallagher also has the tendency to lead from the front and get into challenges to win the ball back higher up the pitch.
