Tottenham Hotspur hoping Luka Vuskovic will return a better player as the Lilywhites give HSV Hamburg the green light to sign him on loan
Tottenham have high hopes that Luka Vuskovic will come good for them in the years to come. The Croatia international has immense talent, and sending him out on loan last season played out in the Lilywhites’ favour. The 18-year-old joined the North London club back in 2023, but he could not come to England to play for Spurs until he turned 18 due to the Brexit rules.
Well, it is fair to say that the talented defender surely made his mark out on loan at KVC Westerlo last season. As per Sofascore, Vuskovic racked up 36 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing two assists. The defender also managed to keep five clean sheets during that time. His attacking threat from the back is clear for all to see after registering such impressive numbers.

But the immense competition at N17 would mean that the Croatia international would not get the required gametime this season to continue his development. The 18-year-old needs to play regularly right now, which is certainly not going to be possible at Spurs. The Lilywhites already have enough depth at the back to fill out a spot in the starting eleven.
Tottenham give HSV Hamburg the ‘all-clear’ to sign Luka Vuskovic
There is no doubt that Tottenham see Luka Vuskovic as a long-term replacement of Cristian Romero. The 18-year-old tends to have the similar game-style as compared to Romero. So, it is clear to see that the Croatian is an investment for the future as the North London club prepares to build on the foundations of young talents.
It was reported earlier that Spurs had not yet decided how they were going to handle Luka Vuskovic’s development. The Lilywhites had an approach from HSV Hamburg for potentially signing the 18-year-old on loan for this season. After initial discussions, the North London club went ‘radio silent’ and failed to give an answer to the German team in time.
However, it looks like Spurs have now decided what to do with Vuskovic for this season. As per Fabrizio Romano (via X), HSV Hamburg have finally gotten the green light from the Lilywhites to sign the Croatia international on loan for this season. The deal does not include a buy-option as Tottenham consider the 18-year-old to be a key part of the future.
Keeping the long-term view in mind, it seems like Spurs have taken the right decision to loan out Luka Vuskovic. The talented defender needs to be playing week in week out right now and gain some exposure in a different country. And in all honesty, playing at a lower level is much better than sitting on the bench and playing as a second fiddle to key players at N17.
