Tottenham enter race to sign ‘spectacular’ Barcelona midfielder; asking price set at £78m

Barcelona star Fermin Lopez faces an uncertain future as Tottenham Hotspur, among other clubs, look to test the waters for his signature

Tottenham are not messing around in the transfer window and have upped their ante in the last few days to bring in a new #10. The Lilywhites need to back Thomas Frank before the market shuts if they want to compete hard on all four fronts this season. And signing a new attacking midfielder is seen as a priority following James Maddison’s ACL injury.

The North London club were on the cusp of landing Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace earlier last week. The England international had also agreed person terms with the club, and the only thing left was for Daniel Levy to reach an agreement with the Eagles for his services. But Levy’s inability to find common ground with Palace gave Arsenal an opportunity to swoop in at the eleventh-hour and sign the 27-year-old.

Since then, Spurs have been trying to find a suitable alternative as they look to save face before the transfer window shuts. The Lilywhites need to get back on track and bring in a player that is versatile enough to either play as a #10, or as a central-midfielder. With deadline day not far away, all eyes will be on Daniel Levy as he looks to address the glaringly obvious issue without any fuss.

Tottenham looking to make a move for Barcelona talent Fermin Lopez

There is no surprise that Tottenham are still active in the transfer market, following Eberechi Eze’s last-minute snub. The Lilywhites still need to bring in a new midfielder before the market shuts in a few days’ time. With lack of depth and quality in the #10 position, Thomas Frank will hope that the North London club will find a way to land a quality player in the coming days.

As per El Chirinquito TV (via X), Spurs have entered the race to sign Barcelona talent Fermin Lopez in the coming days. The Spain international has been linked with a summer move in recent days, with the Blaugrana also open to selling him if the right offer comes in. The La Liga giants have set an asking price of £78m for his services.

Also, Tottenham are not the only ones willing to land the 22-year-old before the window shuts. The aforementioned report also states that Newcastle United have made an approach to sign Lopez and are willing to offer whatever it takes to land the Spain international in the coming days. Chelsea have also contacted the Blaugrana to land the attacker, with the Blues already arranging club-to-club talks with Barcelona.

Spurs signing Fermin Lopez would prove to be a master stroke if he is played to his strengths by Thomas Frank. The Spain international, who is described as ‘spectacular‘, thrives in the #10 role, but he can also play as a central midfielder or on the left-flank. His ability to create chances with his accurate passing is second to none. The 22-year-old also tends to counter-press well higher up the pitch, and his relentless running can play a crucial part in putting pressure on opposition defence.

All-in-all, signing Fermin Lopez would be a good move as Thomas Frank likes to develop players and play them to their strengths. Playing in the Premier League would also give him good exposure, as he will be getting regular minutes against top teams week in week out.
