Morgan Rogers is facing an uncertain future as Tottenham look to sign him on deadline day
The lack of creative flair for Tottenham in the final third of the pitch was evident to see as the Lilywhites were beaten by Bournemouth in the Premier League. Thomas Frank’s men struggled to create chances, and that was all down to the fact that a natural #10 was missing on the pitch that could link the midfield and the attack. The dire performance showcased the North London club’s need for a new attacking midfielder.
The Lilywhites are really struggling to find a replacement of James Maddison as we approach the business-end of the transfer window. The England international is set to be side-lined for most parts of the season after rupturing his ACL earlier last month. And it looks like the lack of depth in that position might come back to haunt Thomas Frank sooner or later.

It is clear to see that Thomas Frannk relies heavily on his #10 to create chances and win the ball back in the final third of the pitch. The Danish tactician wants his attacking midfielder to drift into the half-spaces and play second fiddle to the striker by making a late run inside the box. So, Daniel Levy must do everything he can to bring in a player that will suit the ex-Brentford manager’s system.
Tottenham not giving up on signing Morgan Rogers just yet
Tottenham view Morgan Rogers as an ideal replacement of James Maddison, and have contacted Aston Villa for his signature. The Villans are under considerable pressure to sell some of their players due to PSR issues this summer. However, they are in no rush to lose Rogers before the transfer window shuts as he is considered a key part of Unai Emery’s setup.
But Bryan King believes that the Birmingham-based club would consider selling the England international under one condition. Speaking to Tottenham News, King said,
“He (Rogers) would certainly be a big plus if he came into Tottenham. That would mean that Spurs really mean business, because he’s going to cost £100million, without any shadow of a doubt.”
The ex-scout added,
“The only reason that Villa would become interested in doing business is if Tottenham said, ‘there’s £100m, we want him.’ If Tottenham want to challenge, I think he would be a major factor to make people see that they really are going for it.”
Bryan King believes that signing Morgan Rogers would certainly the elevate the quality of the Tottenham squad. The ex-scout indicates that the Lilywhites would be making a big statement by signing the Aston Villa star, as he would be costing no less than £100m. However, King also believes that the only way to convince the Villans to sell their star player would be by offering them an amount they cannot refuse.
It goes without saying that landing Morgan Rogers would certainly make Spurs solid contenders for a top-four finish in the Premier League. The England international showed time and again last season that he could play on the big stage. As per Sofascore, Rogers racked up 14 goals and 13 assists in 54 appearances last season. This just shows he would be a difference-maker in this Spurs team under Thomas Frank.
