Inter defender Benjamin Pavard needs to decide on his future as Tottenham initiate contact for his signature
Tottenham are looking to add more depth to their defence as we approach the business-end of the transfer window. The Lilywhites do not want a repeat of last season, where they oversaw an injury crisis at the back that derailed their whole domestic campaign. The lack of depth in the backline really made life tough for Ange Postecoglou, and it was one of the main reasons why he was sacked in the summer.
The North London club is looking to bring in a new centre-back that could provide cover for Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. Both defenders struggled to feature regularly last season due to injuries, and there is a concern around N17 that Thomas Frank will need to manage their game time efficiently this time around. So having good cover is key if the Danish tactician is aiming to maintain performance levels week in week out.

As of now, Spurs have Radu Dragusin and Kevin Danso acting as backup defenders for Romero and Van de Ven. But Dragusin has still not fully recovered from his ACL injury, which has forced him to be on the side-lines for the time being. And the Lilywhites have also loaned out Luka Vuskovic to HSV Hamburg for this season. So, signing a new centre-back should be prioritised before the market shuts.
Tottenham step up their efforts to land Inter stalwart Benjamin Pavard
There is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to sign a new centre-back in the coming hours before the transfer window shuts. The Lilywhites are looking to compete hard on all four fronts this season, and having a strong defence will be key in achieving that. Thomas Frank also wants to add more quality and depth to the backline, which has forced Daniel Levy to be in a market for a potential opportunity.
As per CaughtOffside, Spurs are looking to add Benjamin Pavard to their ranks for this season and have contacted Inter Milan for his signature. The Serie A giants are open to selling the defender if the right offer comes in, as they consider him out of their plans for this season. Taking notice of that, the Lilywhites have upped their ante and started negotiations for the Frenchman before the transfer window shuts.
However, Tottenham are not the only ones willing to land the 29-year-old. The aforementioned report also states Manchester United, Barcelona, and Marseille are looking to sign Pavard for this season. The player is keen on a summer move as he wants regular game-time ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup next year. Playing for a top team regularly will ensure his selection for the France national team as well.
It remains to be seen how the transfer saga involving Benjamin Pavard evolves. The 29-year-old would certainly thrive under Thomas Frank at N17. He can either play as a centre-back, or as a right-back. It is his passing ability and positional awareness that make him standout on the pitch. And the Frenchman also tends to get into ground duels to win possession back. His passing range is also a standout quality, as he can quickly start a counter-attack from the back with his accurate long-balls. All in all, signing the Inter defender would be a major coup.
