Mohammed Kudus marked his home debut for Tottenham with two assists but Jamie Carragher remains unconvinced
A lot of eyebrows were raised when Tottenham confirmed the arrival of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham in July. The Ghana international did not endure a successful campaign for the Hammers last season, and he was continuously in and out of the team under Graham Potter. Not many expected the Lilywhites to keep tabs on a player from West Ham early in the summer, let alone sign him on a long-term deal.
But it is fair to say that the 25-year-old is already an important part of Thomas Frank’s setup. The prolific winger managed to mark his home debut for the North London club by providing two assists against Burnley in the Premier League. And his stellar performance against the Clarets and Manchester City instantly made him a fan-favourite at the club.

However, the Ghana international still has a lot of work to do if he wants to be deemed as a successful signing. Kudus will be looking to become a mainstay in the team and retain his spot in the starting eleven if he continues to perform consistently. The 25-year-old is clearly a difference-maker for the North London club, creating chances and opportunities for his teammates whenever he gets an opportunity.
Tottenham star Mohammed Kudus needs to silence his critics this season
Well, it is fair to say that many Tottenham fans are still unsure about Mohammed Kudus after the prolific winger endured a tough campaign last season. As per Sofascore, Kudus racked up just five goals and four assists in 35 games in all competitions last season. So, signing the Ghana international in a high-profile deal is still seen as a major risk taken by the Lilywhites.
Now, Jamie Carragher has shared his verdict on whether Mohammed Kudus will be a success at N17 or not. Speaking to Sky Sports (via X), Carragher said,
“He was a hit or a miss at West Ham, wasn’t he? He had a really good first season, and then not so great (last season). He’s probably been a bit like that this season. Brilliant against Burnley. But too early to tell.”
Jamie Carragher believes that Mohammed Kudus failed to build on his successful first season at West Ham in the following year. The ex-Liverpool player added that the Ghana international has always endured a ‘stop-start’ stint in the Premier League as a result of that. However, Carragher admitted that Kudus has kickstarted his Spurs career in the best way possible, but it is still early days to predict how he will fare at N17.
The 25-year-old does not need to focus on the outside noise and just play his natural game under Thomas Frank. Given that the Danish tactician relies heavily on his wingers for creating goal-scoring chances and getting the goals for the team, it is fair to say that Kudus will have loads of opportunities to make his mark at N17 and be a game-changer for the North London club.
