Luka Vuskovic wants to return to Tottenham as a better player next summer as he looks to compete for a spot in the starting eleven under Thomas Frank

Tottenham starlet Luka Vuskovic has decided to join HSV Hamburg on a season-long loan as he continues his development. The Croatia international is seen as one of the brightest talents in Europe after making a name for himself at KVC Westerlo last season. The 18-year-old initially joined the Lilywhites in 2023, but could not get a work-permit to play in England due to Brexit rules.

However, Vuskovic arrived at N17 this summer after he turned 18-years-old earlier this year. And it is fair to say that he managed to impress Thomas Frank in his first outing as a Spurs player after scoring against Reading in a pre-season friendly. But it still seemed like the teenage sensation had a long way to go before becoming a regular member of the first-team squad under the Danish tactician.

Now, the Croatia international has decided to join HSV Hamburg for this season as he looks to play regularly and improve. To feature regularly for Tottenham, Vuskovic would have to compete with seasoned pros like Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven. And at this stage of his career, it looks like a move away from N17 is the right solution for the player.

Not many youngsters look to seek a move away from a top club during the initial years of their playing career. The thought of playing in an entirely new league for a season and the scrutiny that comes with it plays in their mind, and it derails their progress and development by some extent. However, the same cannot be said about Luka Vuskovic, after his move to the Bundesliga was confirmed earlier this week.

Now, the talented Spurs defender has shared why he chose to move to pastures new for this season instead of staying at N17. Speaking to Germanijak, Vuskovic said,

“Yes, they offered me an option to stay, to play in case of injury or cup matches, but I wanted continuous minutes. They have Romero and Van de Ven playing there, two of the best centre-backs in the world at the moment.”

The teenage sensation added,

“I believe in myself, but it’s really difficult to play next to them. I’ve faced them and I realised that I still have to work harder. A lot of work and a little luck, so I’ll be back.”

Luka Vuskovic has shared that Tottenham wanted him to stay at N17 and play domestic cup competitions under Thomas Frank. But the Croatia international admitted that he left for pastures new as he wants to continue his development and play regularly this season. Vuskovic also admitted that playing regularly for the Lilywhites would be tough, as he would be competing with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven for a spot in the starting eleven.

Moving to a new league for regular minutes seems like a brave move by Vuskovic to say the least. But the Croatia international is determined to prove his worth before becoming a regular starter for Spurs. And that is something that should be seen as a positive if you are a Tottenham fan. The talented defender has also promised that he will be back next season as a better player and fight for a place in the starting eleven at N17.
