Ex-Spurs scout thinks Tottenham have parted with over £100m to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig
Tottenham Hotspur had a busy end to the summer transfer window.
Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani appeared set to re-join Juventus, but with the deal collapsing, Spurs sensed an opportunity to swoop in and bring him to the club on transfer deadline day. The Frenchman has joined Thomas Frank’s side on a season-long loan, after it emerged Dominic Solanke’s injury is more serious than first thought.
Before Kolo Muani arrived, the Lilywhites welcomed Xavi Simons. They signed the Dutch playmaker from RB Leipzig for a fee of £52m, with chairman Daniel Levy deciding to splash the cash in the final weeks of the window. He has agreed a contract until 2030 at N17, with an option to extend for two more years.
Xavi Simons was on the verge of joining Chelsea, having agreed personal terms with the Club World Cup champions. However, Eberechi Eze’s last-minute transfer snub forced Spurs to go all out for the Netherlands international’s signature. The 22-year-old, who has been given the No.7 jersey vacated by the legendary Son Heung-min, is reportedly now one of the top earners at Tottenham.
Xavi Simons to cost Tottenham over £100m, thinks ex-scout
Simons registered 46 goal contributions in 78 appearances for RB Leipzig after joining on loan from Paris St-Germain in 2023, before signing permanently in January of this year. He performed very well during his time in the Bundesliga and was one of Leipzig’s best players in an otherwise disappointing 2024/25 campaign, which saw them miss out on European competition.
The 22-year-old has arrived in the Premier League with a lot of fanfare and expectations. Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King believes Spurs have splashed a total outlay of over £100m for the Simons deal.
“With the money and the wages for Simons alone, you’re looking at over £100m here, Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News.
“The fee is £52m and if he’s signed a seven-year contract, he’s going to be on £7m or £8m a year.”
Thomas Frank will hope Simons hits the ground running at Tottenham
After facing numerous player rejections earlier this summer, Daniel Levy finally managed to bring in some exciting names to the club and end the transfer window on a positive note. The Tottenham honcho has done his job of reinforcing Thomas Frank’s squad, spending a significant amount of money over six additions.
Simons is one of the exciting, hungry talents to have joined Frank’s revolution in north London. Due to his flair, incisive passing and goal scoring, coupled with his ability to operate as a No.10 or left-winger, the Dutchman will bring a different dynamic to the Tottenham attack. His experience at the highest level should also come in handy when Spurs begin their Champions League adventure later this month.
Post international break, Frank will hope to see Simons hit the ground running in the Premier League and solve the creativity at Spurs.
